8th AF / LW (West / Reich) OOBs needed
« on: August 20, 2005, 07:32:25 AM »
Those of you who might be interested in gathering material in order to help HTC put together the 1st ToD Theater (8th AF vs LW) please reply in this Thread

Some of the things they could use help with were outlined in Pyro's reply:

Actually yes. Getting together lists of units, aircraft, dates, airfields, targets, etc would be very helpful.

Please use the linked thread just to provide material rather then discussion. It will make putting together a coherent list easier if that thread remains 'clean'.

I am not sure if there will be any RAF represented in the 1st ToD theater. I don't see why not so please feel free to add any relevant RAF info as well...

Mighty Eighth War Diary, by Roger Freeman pretty much covers what you are looking for.

Dates, Targets, units involved, number of planes, losses, etc.

9th Air Force in World War II, by Kenn Rust would help with their side of the story once the 9th got rolling.

add JG-26 to that list, givers excellent coverage of their portion.

If you have the means, I suggest picking up the Luftwaffe war diaries.  Very dry. but it gives daily combat action.
I regret doing business with TD Computer Systems.

Well the idea isn't so much to provide a bibliography as it is to collect a wide array of information and put into one place.

It can then be used as a reservoir that HTC and crew can dip into once they begin designing missions etc...

I have a whole 'library' of books but just giving out titles and ISBN numbers won't be a whole lot of help.

Let's try and make it a bit easier on them...

Mission descriptions - to give them some idea of the type and variety of missions

Units and Plane Type - adds diversity keeps things believable etc..

Area of Operation / airfield - keeps things close to historical

I assume this would cover from '43 - till the end...

We don't need to get to deep into the nuances, just provide general information that can be used as a reference...

So if there's some misson that you find interesting, anecdote, anything that may be helpful in making an 8th AF 'fun' and interesting please post it.

Are ony the LW ac and bases needed or all?
Is the RAF included?
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)
