Hi All -

my 19" CRT (Hansol 19P) finally died after six years and I've since purchased a Samsung 930B 19" LCD.  Very nice monitor indeed.  8ms refresh, so far, no ghosting on the couple of games that I've tried.  None in AH which is most important.

Anyways, the monitor has a DVI-D input and  my TI4600 has the DVI-D output.  The monitor only came with the standard 15 pin analog cable.

Is it worth going out and getting the digital cable?

Thankee!!

Yes, by geting the digital cable you take the Digital-->Analog-->Digital conversion out of the signal path. The video card does everything in digital and useing the DVI connection and cable sends the digital signal to the LCD for display. Or at least so it was explained to me.

I've got the same monitor with a gf4 ti4200, and asked the same questions you did.  I don't remember my research too much, but I eventually ended up going with the DVI cable.  Like 345 said, the digital/analog/digital conversion will hurt performance.

On top of that, the 930B has a lot of calibration options that are taken care of automatically when the monitor is running on a pure digital connection.

Be careful buying that cable though; I went to Best Buy and Circuit City looking for one.  Both stores tried to sell me a gold-plated DVI cable meant for home theater for around $100.  They didn't even stock a standard one in the computer/monitor section.  Eventually I went to Micro Center and found a regular 6 foot cable for 22 bucks.
