Right. VBS1's latest build includes leaning animations, so hopefully Armed Assault (not quite OFP 2) will have that as well.
OFP's big liabilities were its netcode, mission-based-model (no JIP), and unattractive graphics. No guarantees on whether they'll fix any of these, but some folks swear to me they will.
Ermmm compare OFPs netcode too BF2s netcode... its bandwidth hungry, OFP was aiming for LANs not net.
As for the graphics, hmmm well I remember one patrol, at the edge of a forest, during sunset, a thick fog had rolled in, I heard voices and took cover. A Soviet patrol emerged out of the fog, silhouttes only, walked past me about 10m away, never saw their detail only their silhouttes. I've never had that sort of feeling to a scene in a FPS ever. I still remember hiding the spotlights of searching APCs and Helo's at night.
One of my favourite missions ever was in a Cobra clearing an LZ in a large valley for 3 blackhawks. I got taken out, crashed, my gunner was killed. Of course I was unarmed, hiding behind my cobras wreck as enemy troops advanced from one side of the valley. I directed my wingman who was still flying onto the enemy positions which were much easier to identify from the ground. He pushed the enemy troops back, I called the blackhawks in, they came down, cleaned up, and I caught a ride back to base in one. Now thats entertainment (cobra crash was unscripted btw, it was pure luck I survived the crash).
OFP was wayyyyyyyyyyy ahead of its time.
