Not 100% sure what you're asking for, but you can always just raise your head abit with "Page Up" and then look over one side with the arrows?

No, he's asking about the ability to open/slide back your cockpit door/window.

You know, what 99.9% of the WWII picutres of pilots in their planes look like? :D

Even for bombers, if you could open your side window at low speeds, that would be swell - then auto-close at higher speeds or have it blown off.

You can learn what real pilots do:

Learn to gauge your distance from the ground by looking left or right and down.

Once you have lined up _keep your heading_ and pick a spot to the left or right like a tree or some other object that starts about the same place as the runway.  You checked the field altitude right? Once you have passed your landmark you can gauge your distance from the ground by looking left or right and down.

Use your views, and don't forget to drop your gear.

Could also not nose up untill ready to touch down.

I never have any problems not being able to see the runway or in touching down on the runway unless I get a strong cross wind.

Yea it would all...

Yea it would all depend on how early you performed your transition. Using flaps will also allow you to come in with a view of the runway. The only real difference there is carrier landings.

And you know why the cockpit was open?

So if they did crash they could get out faster.

Would an open cockpit make the pilot's neck longer? His head will only move so far, open cockpit or not.

Carrier based bomber and F4F,FM2 have sliding windows, not in game. All Carrier bombers except TBM have sliding windows above gunner, not in game.IL2 Sturmovik has sliding windows! :furious
on fighters, it's not a window...it's a canopy.

go check real quick, doesn't the 109 canopy in il2 slide open? i can't remember it's been a while since i had it installed.
