There was a comment on a site (I think SimHQ) some time back from Pyro talking about towed artillery pieces. But that was a couple of years ago and I don't feel like googling it.

Artillery has been brought up before and got a lot of support.

Observer aircraft (like the Storch) would be cool too - but I think they need an extra role or two (like picking up downed pilots, marking targets on the map, etc.) to make them worthwhile.

I'm all for it - it adds a new dimension to the game.
Here we are, living on top of a molten ball of rock, spinning around at a 1,000mph, orbiting a nuclear fireball and whizzing through space at half-a-million miles per hour. Most of us believe in super-beings which for some reason need to be praised for setting this up. This, apparently, is normal.

As for marking targets on the map. A observer sircarft could mark the position of last known co-ords of lets say a mission or a goon. And it slowly fades away over time. The marks would only be seen on the channel that player is tuned to.

Artillery would be vulcher's dream: ability to kill planes on a field from far away and behind a mountain. Too easy, don't you think? :) Also, you could destroy a town without exposing yourself to defending GVs.

Rate of fire would prevent vulching - besides, an artillery target is pretty soft - one tiffie and it'll all be over. Mind you, it's got to be found first!

remember when artillery fires it doesn't really suppress the flah or smoke from the barrel and you reload em like an MP5 i'd say it would be like 10 shots a min or something and the range wouldn't be to far unless you had an emplaced artillery on top of a 15k mountain I meen nowadays our American Artillery can go what like 30 to 50 miles?

Six seconds per round is a bit faster than most artillery.
