Well I must admit I watched a fear factor rerun last night. Only thing I saw on tv this whole week.

Military Channel (338 on Time Warner), Deadliest Catch (29)... History channel if a good Modern Marvels is on.

Other than that... mmm, the relatively new I-Control In Demand (instant premium movies with pause/rw/ff) isn't bad. Just pick what you want and it streams at dvd quality.

That's pretty much the only things that show up on my TV, but I've put a stupid amount of hours on the projector lately.

Almost all new TV sets here have a 16:9 screen, and that's what we are talking about. 4:3 is ancient history, movies and most TV shows except american ones are broadcast in 16:9 format.

Same here.. all are widescreen. No HD tv yet tho. There will be some european channels available this fall, but within a couple of years all norwegian channels will have chosen a HD format. From what ive heard they will all make the switch on the same day.

I think plasmas have a life of about 7 yrs if you left them on 24 hrs a day/365 days a year.....think I read that somewhere. Dont recall what the actual number of hours was though.

You will need to replace your old CRT tv in 5-6 years anyway so why worry. Electronics won't last forever.

That depends on the electronics. A microchip baked into some sort of solid substance should if its kept within reasonable temperatures and not exposed to weather, magnets or radiation.

The Panasonic sales rep was up at our Sears a while back.

I asked these same questions...supposedly they are rated for 50,000 hours, same as CRT

Plasmas eat a lot of power...put your hand over one. New source for heating your house!

Plasmas have a better contrast ratio because they can do true black. LCD is a white-light source filtered for the color they need to generate. Just a different and ever improving technology.

If you want 42" to 65" and money is no factor, go plasma. Otherwise, hang on as LCDs slowly go beyond 32 inch. If you have a chance, check out a 32" LCD HD TV...they are incredible.

Plasmas can burn though and they do run hot. It is a tough call these days.

DLP is cool, until the mirrors stop flipping and you start losing bits on the screen. Until they get a good 3 chip DLP out there, the rainbow effect will be bothersome to some people.

LCD lacks good black levels and are limited on colors. They can ghost too.

LCD rear projectors lack good black levels. And require a new bulb periodically. Ghosting does not seem to be prevalent on the high end units.

CRT's are limited on size.

LCoS might be the best of all, but is still young. It has the advantages of LCD, but the black levels of a plasma set due to not using reflected light.

All of them have some drawbacks. If I had not gotten such a good deal on the 65" I got, I would have waited.

I knew I forgot one. OLCD's have promise, but it will be a while before they can be mass produced at a reasonable price.

First generation Plasma's were affected by a "Life Expectancy". Current ones do not have this worry.

mora... I will buy what is available but.. the 4.3 I have works great for movies.. there is a black part top and bottom.. when a TV show is broadcast in the other format I have the same situation... so far... very few shows seem to be broadcast in anthing but 4.3 The problem I have with the widescreen right now is that they distort the image to fit the widescreen. the stretch it out or they simply have blank stripes on the side...
