upon boot, "new device found" blah blah blah, i can NOT get it to STOP automatically installing the old POS drivers (like version 21 somethign)

i will not install drivers over others, as it is bad, and now im fugged. i can not get rid of the 21.xx

ok.... here's how it should go.

1st off, u need Detonator Destroyer from Guru3d

LINK

basically, you launch D.D., then it tells you to go to add/remove in ctrl panel, remove Nvidia drivers, then BACK to D.D. and let it clean out the reamains.

THEN, upon reboot, you NEED to set it up for STANDARD VGA drivers.  That most important.

THEN after you reboot again, you are then able to install the new drivers fresh.

I'll be here for a bit, p.m. me, or reply if ya' need more help.

(heck, just click the D.D. link, it basically says what I just posted.  shoulda just copy / pasted it durn it...)

The reason you shouldnt install over old drivers is sometimes Windows gets confused during the install process and leaves an old file instead of overwriting it.  If the files are the same name and the same size, it might not overwrite the old one, leaving you with a hodge-podge of new and old files in your driver setup.  Plus, by uninstalling first you "clean out" the registry entries (supposedly) and then when new ones are installed the registry is reset to point to the new driver files.  Same with Direct X, but it's even easier to get screwed up so I usually reinstall DX after every driver change just to be safe.
