Hey Brits, whats a "chav" ?
« on: August 30, 2005, 02:30:19 PM »
I see this all the time on online poker now.  It's every British players insult of choice but means nothing to us Americans when we haven't a clue. What does it mean? It's becoming really trendy now , I see it on a ton  of forums too.

I see that online a lot... usually punks that get all bent out of shape in a low limit game if you chase a hand all the way to the river and then hit it.

Just once, I'd like to get a hammer (7-2 boat), but I only play a 7/2 on the big blind. If I do get it, it'll be as exciting as a straight flush, IMHO. :)

It is sometimes mockingly redefined as one of several backronyms, including "Council Housed And Violent", "Council Housed And Vile", "Council House Assault & Violence", "Council House Associated Vermin", "Council House Adolescent Violence" and "Council House Adidas Victim" — although there is no etymological basis for these terms. (In the large majority of cases, suggested derivations of words from acronyms are erroneous).

I thought it stood for Cannibalistic Humaniod Undergrou...

Some bad language in this site, but I feel a public sense of duty to post it so anyone visiting the UK can avoid the worst chav hotspots.

Anyone who would call someone else a chav when losing at poker is probably a chav themselves.

Easy description of a chav: White trash.
