Anyone able to contact/reach Saucier, MS?
« on: August 30, 2005, 08:17:02 PM »
Is anyone able to reach or contact someone in the Saucier, Missippi area?

It's about 20 miles due N of Gulfport.

I have a good friend there that has a Labrador Kennel with 50 dogs in training.

Haven't been able to reach him by any means I have available.

If anyone knows a way to contact folks in that area, please pass it on.

I have family in Lafayette LA. as well and can't get through the phone, including cell phones. Anyone have any info on how that town made out?

Here in Starkville, MS we are having difficulties getting ahold of the southern part of the state.  Roads south are either impassable or blocked by the national guard.  Cellphone networks are down or diverted to rescue efforts.  Lots of people here who haven't heard a thing from their relatives to the south.  The general silence  from the south of the state is worrysome indeed.

I have family that evacuated to Baton Rouge/ LSU just before the storm.

Just heard from them a couple of hours ago.  They are just now getting some services back up and running in Baton Rouge.

Mark, can you tell me any more about the roads being closed?

The thought had crossed my mind to load up supplies and head down there. Just not sure I'd get through, either stopped by the authorities or storm blocked roads.

Toad,

I live near the Arkansas/Louisiana border on highway 425.  Power company trucks and cherry-pickers have been passing in mile-long convoys headed toward the disaster zone.  The crews have been told to expect to spend at least 6 weeks in the area.

It's going to be quite a while before communications are fully restored.  Finding someone down there would probably be extremely iffy.  It might be best to wait for them to contact you.

Whatever you decide to do,  I wish you the best of luck.

Regards, Shuckins

OUr Nephew is stationed at the AFB in Biloxi. He has been able to call home, but they are restricted to the base. Maybe you still have connections with the AF Toad?

Toad if you get in contact with him , let me know, I wouldn't mind heading out that way to help pack up the dogs and move 'em out somewhere..

I work at an animal hospital.

No luck through the AF. The bases have self-contained phone systems and secure comms.

The problem is that the lines are down through the countryside. I don't see anyway to contact Tom unless someone actually goes looking for him or he gets to a place that has comms to the outside and contacts his friends.

Odd you mention it..

My neighbor came to me yesterday  about reaching any news on her brothers small town.

Remembering my CB days I Googled for some shortwave / CB / civil defense sites in that area...  Through a series of phone calls to other areas were able get a shortwave operator to contact some near that town.

No news on her bro, but we find out most everyone evacuated before the storm hit.

Toad,

Check the Mississippi DOT homepage, as they are starting to put up road conditions and closures now.

Wish me luck.

My veterinarian friend and partner in Lab breeding and I are leaving from Atlanta tomorrow with a truck and a horse trailer full of supplies.

Saucier or bust.
