guns convergence
« on: August 31, 2005, 09:39:02 AM »
just wondering if the norm is to set all guns to the same convergence or split the ranges up.

In the Spit 9 I have all guns set the same.

Is there an advantage to setting them at different ranges?

I always fire the 20mm and 50 cals together.

comments?

thanks

In my opinion in AH2 setting guns all to the same range is best. The reason being the air to air shots you will be taking will be within a very narrow range and very consistantly within that range (d400'ish). In AH1 there was some benifit to the 'cone of fire' principle of gun convergence as the range of viable shots was rather large (D200-d1000). So, single point convergence works better in AH2 IMO. The only exception would be if you were flying a plane with two or more gun types that you planned to fire independantly of one another with entirely different ballistics and therefore effective ranges, such as a LW plane like Fw190A8, 109 or 110 with MG's, 20mm and 30mm cannons.

I agree with Zazen, I have all guns in all planes set to 300 convergence, except for the Hurri I, Spit I and the A6M2 which I have those all set at 200.

would you set 20mm and 50 cals the same then? or are the ballistics between the 2 much different?

The ballistics are different, but they are set up to hit a specific distance dead center of the crosshairs.

So if you set up the Spit 9 to fire at 400 yards all around, both the 20mm and the .50 will strike the same spot at 400 yards away (assuming nothing else changes).

However, the path the bullets take to get there will be different.

Diffrent ballistics, and since they take diffrent times to get to target you need diffrent lead.

So when fireing both at a moving target only hispanos or cal .50 will hit usually.

I have them diffrent because i think if i hit with the 2 hispanos thats enough damage, no need to add the two cal .50 there. I use them once the hispanos are out. But with steady target or shooting at bombers both hitting would be better, so to me it completly makes sense to fire both.

Ok, you need to cause as much damage as possible to ensure a quick kill.  So knock the con down quick time with BOTH sets of guns set at the SAME convergence.  Load into that con as much ammo in 1 SPOT as possible.  Remember u want him dead not pinged up for when his buddy arrives.

20 mm + 50 cal 1 spot equals = dead

Check your hit % on AH front page score charts.  I use a convergence of 325 on most planes and i'll shoot 200 to 400 but 200 is best.  600 yrd shots on sitting ducks or diving on bombers.  Shooting to far out pi$$es away ammo and alerts the con your there.  Ideally, everything at once in 1 spot at 200 = BOOM.

Hurri1 Spit 1 Hurri D i use 225.  For sure you need to be in close and hold the hits for almost a second but you get kills.  HurriD 3 cannon hits on a GV turret (except Tiger) and no GV:aok

I do the same a the rest, 300 on almost all planes, currently only the La-5 at 250.

I didn't realise it, but flight times are different as well for different guns (different muzzle velocities). I adjusted my shooting abilities well in AH2 but I tend to fly planes with .50's > easiest gun to aim. This tour I settled on the Bf-109G6 (w. 20mm, not 30mm) as my 'standard' fighter' and I have trouble adjusting. High deflection shots don't hit the mark anymore and as the 109's firepower is concentrated in a very small area it is even tough to hit sometimes from dead six. IF I manage to get my aim correct, a short burst means boom.

I have no problem with convergence, it's my aim that's giving me trouble.  ;)

8 x .50 cal, convergance 400yds. Lead shot when they break = 400 yds. They disintegrate.
