Why is it that we have to help in every natural disaster that were allowed into, but when it comes to something as devestating as katrina theres not a sign of anyone else? Is it that the media just dosnt show it? Is it that beacuse we are the worlds superpower they assume we can handle it ourselves? Or is it that we simply wont accept the help? Yes we may not need the money, but we could still use rescue crews to help save people.

it is a good point Blue. i can not remember any time in the past 10 years where another country made an even cursory effort to aid the US in the time of a tragedy on a large scale.

whatever any other country promises, i doubt it will come close to what the US gives out every year.

For some strange reason I don`t believe "aid workers" sent by Chavez would be allowed into the country. :)

There is alot done behind closed doors that the media does not report.  The U.S. Govt thanks, but does not usually except aid that is offered.  Diplomatic stuff at it's best.

What asset or relief does another country possess that the US could not muster and have on site faster?

Other than monetary donations, I can not think of anything.

Construction supplies and basic infrastructure items will be in very short supply.  A supercargo ship full of lumber or even concrete/gravel would probably help as much as anything else.

Come to think of it, a couple dozen cruise ships parked offshore would help.

Why would they? Are we not the richest country on the planet?

Most of the time around here it's, "We're America. We can do what we want, where we want, when we want."
