Angry with some of these refugees
« on: September 01, 2005, 07:39:51 PM »
I am listening the news it is frustrating me to no end. I keep hearing the same thing, I have no food, no water, no A/C, no toilet.

Its stupid. These people were told to leave, get out of the path of the storm.  One woman said when asked if she was fed  "They gave us army food, It was cold, I couldnt eat that stuff" How spoiled are these people. If its good enough for our soldiers the by god its good enough for her.

Some im sure didnt have the funds and couldnt avoid it. I will bet that there are MANY of the survivors in N.O. that could have gotten out. Storms are inconvenient but if you live in the path of storms be prepaired have a plan. Put a couple hundred $ in a sock, a nickel at a time if you must. This is a tragedy that has been waiting to happen for years. The damage models were there, it was only a matter of time. They rolled the dice and lost.

This is a horrible situation for all in the area, a problem we as a country will all have to burdeon. We as a whole will have to make adjustments to our lives to get through this tragedy.

I will do my part, donate items/money/time. I already gave cash today at work to get some relief to the area. Now its time for the refugees to do their part, suck it up and deal with it, and do it with a smile on your face and a thank you rolling off your lips.

Rant off...

Ya ever had Blackened Swordfish, Crawfish Pie, Dirty Rice, Gumbo?

Tough to go from eating at Prudomme's to a cold MRE.  Give 'em some slack, the just lost most everyting, and I'm sure it's tough to see the silver lining from Canal Street.

Slack? Im not talking about the ones who had no way of getting out. I am talking about the huge numbers that are left behind. It a tough environment to live in, people have been living in conditions like they are in other countrys their entire lives. They have been in this condition for 4 days.

When Opal came to my area, I evacuated, when Ivan came here I evacuated. Its common sense, look at what happend in the past and realize it can happen to you.

Most people who live on the Gulf coast know of the dangers, most get out of the way. I have a problem with the ones who disregard the warnings and try to ride it out.

I will give no slack to someone who turns their nose up to perfectly good nourishment because their pallate is too sophisticated.

Yep....your not? Your happy with them risking the lives of all the brave people trying to rescue them. Everytime one of those choppers go up and a guy drops down that line they risk death. They are dying because they didnt want to drive away.

Once again, I understand some couldnt leave. If the ones who could have left did leave then there would have been pleanty of transportation/food/water for the ones who couldnt.

So yeah, it is some reaction.

Kev,

Some folks, maybe the majority of them, are really pretty helpless in that they cannot survive without the support of a modern city / society. It is proof positive that "Darwin" has not applied to the majority of humans for quite some time.

We don't know why they didn't leave, hell thre are lots of folks who throw a party when a hurricane is coming. Not everyone is really a rational being in a city. Some are also constrained as they couldn't leave due to health or lack of transportation. An order to evacuate doesn't come with transportation very often.

As far as that woman is concerned, yep I'd imagine she wasn't very hungry yet. Give her a couple more days and I bet she'd be reall happy with an MRE. I bet she'd even be happy with the old C rations lima beans and ham! Ask some of the older vets about that particular treat!
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Stay away from the porkchop too. Not sure what it was, but tasted like fish. I ate MREs for 2 weeks strait, breakfast, maybe lunch if our instructors let up in the simulated battle, and for dinner. The dinner MREs are by far better. I always liked how they would just repackage things like combos. After a few days we learned some tricks, like how to make pudding and plenty of other good things. The instructors took our heating bag to make bombs out of them. Tastes about the same cold or hot anyway.

Was it K rations that composed of either cheese or spam.

The worst IMHO was "HAM SLICE"  I hated it.  It tastes like spam but worse and more preserved.

The worse part is when you spill the juices on your hands they smell like hot dogs the ENTIRE day no matter how much you clean them.

I just checked to make sure and there are NO dead people in my living room. I even looked under the couch.
Wait a sec....
Ok just had my daughter check too and she confirms there are NO dead or dying people in my living room.
Trust me. if there were she would let me know as such things she would get highly upset about.
but if there were.
Yes I sure as hell would be mad at them.
