Yuuuuuuuuuuuuup. And for anybody who throws in the "poor" card I would point at the behaviour of those in the tsunami hit areas whos average ANNUAL income was less than US$250, yet those people still managed to act like civilised human beings.

Heck we could really open up the can of worms and look at the primary religion in NO versus those of Sri Lanka, India, toejamet, and Indonesia. Theres one correlating consistancy between these areas, the disasters in question, mob behaviour, and the major religions followed.

Aw, come on you critical, ominiscient, compassionated finger pointers!  The issues being debated here weren't even on your radar screen two weeks ago.  

Blanco and Nagin need to be tossed out of office by the voters of Louisiana.  Their refusal to unify the relief efforts under a single command structure has impeded those efforts.  

What type of governor delays declaring their a state a disaster area for nearly a week after such a disaster?  Why does such a governor wait for 5 days to request aid from neighboring states with which his state has an emergency aid pact?

What type of mayor does not have the foresight to use available buses to help evacuate his city?

The answer to all of those questions is simple:  incompetent governors and mayors.

I'm certain it's a (insert one/both) class/race problem relevant to the current state of the American Dream.

I'd be pretty hard pressed to make it a Southern Baptist / Christian problem, Vulcan. I doubt seriously any of this mess is could be construed to be anything more than greedy/complacent welfare society.

I'd also be pretty hard to convince that the primary difference between the mindset of a black inner city denizen surrounded by the unguarded trappings of an affluent society can be compared to the mindset of a penniless moslem surrounded by stripped coconut palms and the debris of a subsitence fishing village.

Had that penniless moslem been faced with the shattered wreckage of a WinDixie or a K-mart owned by rich white americans I'd be willing to bet he'd loot to his happy lil moslem hearts content.. and probably use his newly purloined weapons to shoot at the first American helicopter that showed up to take all his new loot back.

Actually, Moslem, Hindu, and Buddhists. And there were some quite well stocked businesses in the affected areas, as well as groups more well armed than your looters (Tamil Tigers ring a bell?).
