Gun sales in the south explode after Katrina

I would assume any society that is in survival mode would take great measures to arm themselves with what the market makes available to them in the aftermath of such an event.

I believe that I asked in another thread if people here though that gun sales would go down or up or stay the same after this.

Why would this be?   It would seem that guns would be proven to be an evil thing in the wake of katrina and that it is obvious that there is no need for them in any case since the government will protect  you.

Those who wanted guns or permits and were refused... if they were mugged, raped or looted in katrina... I would think that they could sue the government for not allowing them their second amendment right to protect themselves or others.   How much is that worth?   Millions per case?

One thing consistent with the anti-gun crowd is that they'll selectively use the events of the past week to suit their own agenda.  I suppose all groups do that to an extent, but in this case, they'll say that the message of Katrina is that guns hurt people.

There will be, I suspect, a curious silence on the subjects of:
* Law enforcement providing all the protection you need.
* The number of non-firearm related attacks/muggings.
* Instances where gun owners protected themselves and their families.
etc, etc.

I beleive it will be business as usual at a much accelerated pace by the anti-gunners. They will just take the chance to put a spin on everything as usual and use the opportunity to preach to those that are uncapable of thinking for themselves.
Example : " If  Junya hadn`t been exposed to readily available guns in such extreme circumstances he would never had went into that shooting, looting spree. Now , not only was he left exposed to the elements, scared and confused, he will now suffer the trauma of what guns can do. He will more than likely have to have a lifetime of mental therapy and be unable to function on a normal level. State and Federal government now have the responsibility to see that he is treated for his trauma and supported the rest of his life."

Last night he fired half a clip of tracers over the heads of sum of em that where in his corn. So not everything is a rumor. luckily he didnt have to pop any of em to get em to run off.:aok

does a nice job on turkey out to 80m with the 3-1/2" shells too.  don't forget to pull it tight to the shoulder.  your cheek may hurt from the recoil as well.  :D

skuzzy... I think those of us in the gun culture will simply point out that when push comes to shove... People want to have the means to protect themselves...

It is something that comes natural to people like wanting free speech and all that other junk the constitution identifies as human and inalienable "rights".

It is a right that is frought with resposibility and potential problems so it is one that most people put way to the back of their mind...  They try not to think of it... like that full physical they put off...  Things like katrina have allways been a wake up call....  like a friend dying of prostate cancer makes you call for an appointment.

Cops may indeed stop you from being a victim if they happen to come by just at the right moment or if you saturate the area with them (and their guns) but it seems like a long shot to bet your life or families on in the first instance and abhorent in the latter (police state).

My point was that these events make people realize that they alone are responsible for  controling the ability to defend themselves... these events do not make everyone run out throw away the evil firearms as being the problem.   People don't just say... "Well.... the police/government will protect me... I don't need to take the responsibility."

In the end... It isn't even the cops that that will deter the thugs but the guns the cops carry.
