Another auction buy… & Goaly is ready for deer season.
« on: September 07, 2005, 06:59:36 PM »
Howdy all! Another purchase from an estate auction, and I am ready for deer season.

A Mossberg 500 12 gauge pump, with a hard case, trigger lock, sling, second butt stock (for use with the scope.)  and the following barrels: 24” smoothbore slug barrel with adjustable iron sights, 24” rifled slug barrel with scope mount and scope,  28 inch full choke ribbed barrel…

And oddly, a 24" .50 cal. Black-powder muzzleloader barrel, which converts this shotgun into an inline muzzleloader.

All for $265.00  (Not too bad)

Has anyone ever shot one of these?

My password at work had to contain exactly 8 characters… I chose Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Nice bag! Good luck! Next year my oldest son and I will hunt for the first time together! Very exciting prospect from a fathers point of view.

GOALY,

I own a Mossberg 500 12 GA.    I do not own a slug barrel or muzzleloader barrel for the gun.

If shooting the smoothbore barrel use regular foster slugs.  NOT SABOTS.

If shooting the rifled slug barrel use SABOTS.       Not sure if you know this already or not.  If so, just disregard above.

I have heard of the muzzleloader combo but this is the first time I have seen this in a pic.    Curious is to how you shoot this system with a pump action shotgun.

I use a Marlin 512 12 GA bolt action rifled barrel for my deer hunting in NE Ohio.   Very accurate and very deadly.   I use Remington copper sabots 2.75.       Last deer taken with my rig was at 80 to 85 yards on a neck shot 7 point buck.   Was the only shot available to take as he was in some brush.  If I missed I missed him clean.

Very good buy BTW.

You load the muzzle just like any other black powder gun. Then pull the slide back and insert a 209 shotgun primer into the back of the barrel, which is accessable through the ejection port. Move the slide foward, and it's ready to shoot normally. The original saftey works & all.

Gotcha!

Pretty slick way to get more bang for you buck using the same weapon just using different barrels.

Mossberg 500 .20 gauge was my first shotgun.  I remember being 8 years old and that sucker kicked like a mule!  I was happy to move up to a 12 gauge 11-87 from Remington.

Now I use it as a skeet gun (it came with a skeet barrel...amazing right?) and keep the single slide (my only complaint about the weapon) lubed with graphite paste stuff that my dad has on hand and I can shoot it faster than most guys I know fire a semi-auto.

Yours will hunt everything and it's a good gun.  Congrats! (Just don't let your kids shoot it...ouch! :huh )
