Looking for info
« on: September 07, 2005, 10:35:37 PM »
If anyone can find this out... I am forever in there debt.

I am looking for a plane number for a P-47C or D from the 325th FG.

The P-47 was flown by Bunn Hearns, it was called "Star of Altoona"  I am looking for the number that was marked on the side of it.  Not the SN.

If anyone can help... I owe them one.

P.s.  This is not for a skin... for a movie.

Bodie's book on the Jug says the unit number on the side of that P47 was "11"

Photo of Herky Green standing near it on the front right of the plane.  Can't see the number but Bodie indicates unit records say it was 11

Bodie also says it's a P47D-10RE.  Photo shows it with P38 drop tanks under the wings.  Apparently retrofitted for carrying up to 3 drop tanks.

What the heck.  Here's the image

Thanks Guppy,

Number 11 was "Miss Ridge", his assigned P-47. On January 30, 1944 over Udine area, he flew "Star of Altoona" that was assigned to Bunn Hearns.  He got his six kills that day. "Miss Ridge was down for maintanice that is why he flew it.   I have the picture you put up, Herky's book.

There is a book that has it but it's 200 bucks to buy.  "Stars and Bars" by Frank Olynyk.  Arthur Feidler, Herky's wing, told me to look in it... I thought maybe someone on here would have it.

Thanks for the Help... you are a great resource. :aok
