repair & replace fleet ships
« on: September 09, 2005, 03:39:45 AM »
what about a way to repair & resupply fleets?

-c47s could help repair a minimal amount per cargo load(concrete to fix the flight deck / radar equipment / parts etc...)-would be tough to accurately airdrop to cv / or land it on cv and release cargo

////////////
-fleet would have to set anchor or something at a friendly base that borders water (add new base structure(s):docks & or warehouses) and once docked/anchored slowly regenerates over time until back at 100%

pro: can fix up fleet

con: easier for enemy to bomb but fleet guns can still be manned and fire on auto AI

-subs could launch and land at these docks as well?
///////////////

PS:what about a system to set fleet speeds to aid in torpedo evasion

     I'm not sure the navy would want concrete repairs on their
wooden flight decks.  Even if you could find the steamrollers on
a CV to flatten it, might make the boat a tad top heavy :D

US pacific fleet CVs DID use concrete to patch up the flight decks so pilots could take off and land until better repairs could be made.  Or maybe Winston S. Churchill's time life autobiography (published in '59) is full of bull@#$$?

     I'd look for another source, if only because it would be alot
simpler to repair the wooden US flight decks with wood.  It would
also be faster and use less equipment.

     Since the Royal Navy used metal flight decks, maybe they used
different methods of repair?
