Film21 and film22 (or "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest))
« on: July 16, 2000, 06:44:00 AM »
Yesterday I was fortunate to be involved in two bombing raids from Rookland to the evil Kingdom of Bish.  Caught on film and submitted for your approval, (and probably only of interest to the pilots involved), are the two missions.

The first, (film21.zip 2017kb expanding to 2.8Mb), is a raid starting out with Titanium, Zekiller, DRAGO, VISCONTI, CrzyHrse, raxx and Sn1p3r in B17's and RENOBB bringing up the rear in a P47.  It starts out as a drama and ends in tragedy as the B17's leave from field 18 full of hope and are intercepted on their journey by a multitude of bishop fighters.  Highlights are the skywriting about two thirds of the way through the journey when Titanium and I circle back to form up with Sn1p3r who was suffering a fuel leak and lost alt when the fuel tank ran dry.

The second film, (film22 2938kb expanding to 4.2Mb), is a raid that started 20 minutes later with HappMSKT, Cobra, Beeger, Corwin, ZeKiller, raxx, Wotan, Titanium, Sn1p3r and Slyder in B17s effecting a three pronged raid on the Bishop HQ and then attacking field 23.  Thorns provides a supporting role as the lone p47 escort.  SkiPPy turned up in the nick of time at 23 with a C47 of very airsick grunts who just barely staggered to the map room and captured 23.

Please note that these are large files and can take up to 10 minutes to play even on FastForward, (they took 15 minutes each to upload on a 115Kbps link).  If you get a "404 file not found" try right clicking on the link and choosing "Save As...".  I'll keep them at the links above untill July 30 2000 then depending on available disk space they may be removed.

Geocities won't let me download the files, saying "The page is unavailable".

I was one of the fighters going after you the first raid. Going off map like that was kind of dweeby. Just like going to 38K in a B17.

In WB the map goes on and on, but here in AH this is really ridiculous.

I basically don't have anything against going off to gain altitude, but B17 should not get to altitude impossible for fighters, and the map should not stupidly stop like that.

Soya,

Like I said above: Right click on the link and chose "Save as...".

As for dweeby, well I think the lead got a bit lost and intended to sneak up the side of the map not get halfway out to the edge.  There's a trick to knowing where you are on the map when you fall off the edge but I ain't telling, (Rook secret =)

Anyways it was a bit of fun that all ended in flames.

Save as didn't work the first time. Neither the second time, but the third time it worked.

As for knowing where you are off map, that's not the problem, the problem is knowing where the enemy is, and there is no way to know. No bar, no dots, no arrow pointing in their direction.

I don't mind the absence of dots, but I'd like to have some indication of where they are.

Right now, fields on the coast are denied early warning and can't get to altitude in time (assuming the buffs are at a realistic alt).
