Less bling more performance
« on: September 12, 2005, 05:40:55 AM »
I would gladly give up an authentic WW2 specific paint job for more and better performance and fluid gameplay. Make the planes black and white for all I care because everytime a new version comes out I have to re-tweak to make room for the pretty airplanes. I've yet to notice the great graphics on a plane I've shot down, that is when the slideshow has allowed me to get a few bullets off, while I wait to listen, not see,how and why I just died.
Ok I feel slightly better, but my point is less bling and more zing please.

One can disable sikins if I remember correctly ?

And I must say that the "camoflage" of some planes is working. If only all planes where white as the P51 or Zero, then I could see it better

L2D did you ignore the readme of the last patch?  The whole purpose of the patch was to try and improve everyones performance.
"Willy's gone and made another,
Something like it's elder brother-
Wing tips rounded, spinner's bigger.
Unbraced tailplane ends it's figure.
One-O-nine F is it's name-
F is for futile, not for fame."

Pure genious.

While your at it. Try 256 textures. There's a reason you're able to choose between 256, 512 and 1024.

There is also a reason you have the performance sliders.

other people dont have these problems, why? because we go out and do something about upgrading. AH's graphics are far below par compared to almost all games out now, and youre saying you want to make it worse for all of us with good pc's, just so you and a few others can get a few extra fps?:huh

man i wish there was a yawning smilie.:lol

if you want more fps, just buy a little more ram, it dont cost much either, unless of course you empty dustbins for 10 cents an hour

Good points all. I was just frustrated last night after doing all the adjustments suggested and not getting less freezeup. It ran fine before the upgrade/patch and I just blamed the paint jobs out of disparity, which I know is not the cause. I'll try again in a more logical "frame" of mind.
Flame on....I gotta go empty some dustbins and save some pennies up!

If you can get a gig of RAM (for using 512textures) or better yet 2GB of RAM then turn off the damn virtual memory. Nothing will kill FPS as much as having to read/write your textures to the HDD over and over.

After reading this thread I set my video down to 256 and ingame had all the sliders to highest performance. The difference? MAYBE..1-2 fps. I couldnt believe it.  So its now back on 1000+ and a medium setting on sliders.

*sigh*

I'm amazed at some people who play this game and don't realize that in order to play games (esp. ones that are being updated constantly like this one) on the computer you need to have at least a semi decent computer as far as cpu and graphics card is concerned.

And also you need to upgrade your computer at least once every 3-4 years.

These days you can build a pretty damn good gamming computer for $1000.

I don't read gamers of other computer games whining and actually complaining about improvements.

As someone else wrote, this game's graphics are actually behind the times compared to other games.

Why? People whine and refuse to save the $200-300 a year to build a new computer every 3-4 years.

HTC: keep up the great work, the more graphics quality the better.

DirectX update

Problem solved with update of DirectX. Yeah jpeg been there, have that but without the latest version it don't run too good no matter what your setup. So frustration>reasoning>update DX>problem solved. Those are all good points about the lastest and greatest but your system is only as good as the weakest link.
In my case it was a simple update to the newest version and things are back to normal. Bring on the graphics HTC!

did you delete your cache?

Also turning sliders to max is not the way to go about testing the difference. If you dont beleive me you may want to talk to skuzzy. But you're going about it wrong. You cant benchmark a system and its performance compared when you're screwing around with 4-5 different settings.

Set slidders Leave them. Run in 1024 then run in 256. You will see a difference. And it will be noticable.

How about:

More BLING, More PERFORMANCE.

that seems to be what we're getting most of the time anyhow.
