Quake plane for quake arena
« on: December 05, 2000, 10:35:00 AM »
Beta terrain is back. I understand people who like it, but I don't. As far as I'm concerned, I see there mostly furballs that I don't like, i feel like in a Quake arena. I end up epyleptic very fast.

I also noticed a lot of ack runing in this arena. People go to 15K and when in trouble run to their ack, who are not far away due to short distances.

I can't stop flying AH every two TOD because I love the game too much, so I decided I will fly the Niki all the time in Beta Arena. A Quake plane for a Quake arena. Serious stuff back next month  .

Frenchy, this terrain makes a virtual buffet for the Jug!
The fights usually stay low. So take off at a base a little further from the action, which isn't going to be too far anyway, and feast away.

I love this terrain.

The last thing I want to see is 20k dogfights.. it takes me too freakin' long to climb that high in a P47.

The Jug is not good at the 1v1 co-alt contests... but give me a low-alt furball to BnZ and I'll come out with a handful of kills every time.

Westy, my best souvenirs are not :
- when I got 7 kills in a Niki while taking off from the hangar of a vulched airbase in less than 10 min.
- when I got 5 kills with 40 rounds in a Niki.
- when I got 18 kills with 2 rearms in a P47-D30.

My best souvenirs are more when :
- I dogfighted P47 Vs Mathman's yak.
- I could survive the Thunderbirds for 15 min when low/slow on deck in P47.
- I dogifghted Funked in his Spit.
- My squad encountered the AKs on a special ops.

My fun is not coming in a furball and got 3-5 kills till I got shot down. My fun is not even go 15K in a P47, do quick passes and shoot down low turning targets, extend, climb come back, attack, run away, come back and land 1.5h later with 5 kills.

The beta arena is too "AW3-fightertown" or "WB-ACA" for me, the other MA suits me better.

I'm one of the few, I know, but at least I expressed my POV to HTC and this comunauty  .

Have to agree with Leph here.

The beta terrian is made for the fast action low furball. But even better are the Valley Tank fights between VHs. I had some wild 4v5 tank fights using mountains as cover.

Now, with 1.05 coming out all HT needs to do is replace the mountain ridge with water and turn the Volcano in the middle into an Atoll and we have a water terrian that would rock with Ship action.

Of coarse it would be nice if Landing craft were also included making capture of Atoll bases and other bases close to shore possible.

Dog out.........

"at least I expressed my POV to HTC and this community"

<S> I can respect that and you did put it very nicely that you did not like the arean they switched to.  And I can understand what you're saying. Imo, in this terrain there is room for all of what you just described.

I'd honestly been hoping for the Mediteranean or Luzon terrain myself.

Beta terrain back? When they first brought this back a couple of tours ago, I initially had very little feeling about it. Distances to fly and drive are a lot shorter so you can sortie more.  But as that tour went on I discovered how easy it now was for a Osty to roll in and take out your entire field single-handedly before you notice.  I learned to dive bomb in my 190's that tour, it was a necessity since the time it takes to get your butt off the ground when an Osty is bearing down is critical. I enjoyed dropping the 500kg eggs on top of the Osty's head. However, during the time I fly (late evening Hawaii time), I encountered certain Osty driver(s) who could be counted on as being responsible for taking out an entire field while we weren't watching. Then, discovering that out field was in iminent danger of capture, defenders flock to the field and attempt to take off if the fh isn't down. Only to be swatted down by the Osty, unless they were lucky. Getting revenge by egging them and the offending vh was great, but it sure pissed quite a few of us off (remember the posts on the Osty?).
So the terrain is a double-edged sword.. action is quicker and more intense, but if no one is paying attention or if there aren't enough defenders to go around, real estate is lost very quickly. Just my couple of cents

Rock:  Ya see that Ensign, lighting the cigarette?
Powell: Yes Rock.
Rock: Well that's where I got it, he's my son.
Powell: Really Rock, well I'd like to meet him.

frenchy the n1k2 is too easy

go with the spitIX/V and pretend you are in a US squadron in Europe flying the spit and waiting for an "upgrade" to the P-47 er p38.

the n1k2 is faster than both spits below 10k
the n1k2 out turns the spitIX but not the spitV
the n1k2 has more ammo and more cannons
the n1k2 outaccelerates both spits by a small margin.

but for those that prefer to have no challenge when flying there is always the good old n1k2.

a very nice crutch indeed.

Wow, concise and to the point.  That's exactly why I fly it...thanks Cit!  I do wish I could talk Pyro into giving me invicibility and unlimited ammo though, so I could really be a dweeb.

I've come to categorize the AH aircraft by two different styles and objectives.

survivability goes hand in hand with pure speed,climb/dive + maneuverability so this category is obvious.

the one I have more fun contemplating is the level of difficulty each aircraft presents for its pilot in general dogfighting arena play where returning to base is not a big priority but getting kills is.

from most difficult to least for the average dweeb...

c202 : turn
bf109g6 : climb,accel
P-47d : guns,speed,dive,roll
fw190a8 : guns,speed,dive,accel,roll
a6m5 : turn,climb
bf109f4 : turn,climb
P-38L : speed,climb,dive
spit5 : guns,turn,climb
bf109g2 : speed,turn,climb,accel
fw190a5 : guns,speed,climb,dive,accel,roll
f4u1d : speed,turn,dive,roll
c205 : guns,speed,turn,climb,dive,accel
bf109g10 : speed,climb,dive,accel
yak9u : speed,turn,climb,accel,roll
spitIX : guns,turn,climb,accel
P-51D : speed,climb,dive,roll
typhoon : guns,speed,turn
F4u1c : guns,speed,turn,dive,roll
N1k2 : guns,speed,turn,climb,dive,accel

thats how i look at strengths of an aircraft when i see any of these planes charging at me in the arena.

Hi

Gotta agree with that list Citabria, sure have seen many more tiffies, chogs and nikis in MA since 1.04. Whatever the reason is, its quite clear that these 3 planes benefited most from 1.04 changes.

thanks GRUNHERZ

WE ARE GETTING ALL NEW TERRAINS IN 1.05!

Sorry, had to be loud to catch the eye.

1.05 adds ships and ports.  These terrains we are playing on now will get replaced by terrains with alot or at least some water in them.

I don't even think we will even see these terrains modified for adding oceans.

Hans.
