Tech Question regarding Wife-Unit, GL1
« on: September 10, 2005, 08:12:49 AM »

Tech Questions:  1) What buttons, knobs, or switches can be adjusted to get the Wife-Unit, GL1 to be more user friendly and interactive with the game play, or game-player, of AH?

2)  If it is beyond adjustment, what can be done to at least keep it's volume level down during game play?

3) If volume level is broken, is there any way to shut down the unit while AH is running?

Thanks for any advice,

Jedman  :D

#1 - There are two buttons on the front chassis that definately makes the unit more user friendly. It takes some practice to getting it right but once you do the unit will be a lot more friendlier.

#2 -  Best way to keep the volume down is to take some cotton and place it in the speaker and cover it with duct tape.

#3 - Easiest way to handle question #3 is to place a tub of Edy's triple chocolate ice cream and some movies of women and they usually shut down for hours to receive the video.

LOL, Meatwad.

BTW, gents, this is no way supposed to be a woman or wife bashing thing.  I know most of us love our wives dearly.  Just some good, clean, humor I thought we might get some chuckles from.

Sex In The City, Friends, ER anything like that is good to get some play. Victorian costume dramas with Mr Darcy in them are good too.

Soprano's, Six Feet Under etc no darned good. We both have to watch those!

Not that guys don't watch the others, just not really my scene.

Most guys have problems setting "convergence" past 6 inches let alone 20 ft, so quit bragging.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

All the buttons and knobs merely work on the very short term basis.  So all adjustments made outside of AH revert back to default settings shortly after you return to the game.

Therefore, I have to agree with Flossy on this on.  Getting my wife, Stormy2U, to start flying has drastically decreased the sparatic fire of the Wife-Unit. :aok

But there are things to consider with this adaptation of the Wife-Unit to the AH arena.  Besides teaching control and understanding of other things, AH also teaches the Wife-Unit other things like:

1.  Accuracy and target lead.  These things may make it hard to run to safety when the unit starts firing outside of AH.

2.  Proper engagement techniques.  The wife unit will soon learn that the frontal assault is not the best means.  You may soon find your self cruising along thinking everything is nice and cozy.  For out of no where, that Wife-Unit will drop in on your 6 and prepare to saddle you.  Hopefully, you are used to not getting 6 calls and are watching for these assaults as they can take you by total surprize.

3.  Commenting on the Wife-Unit's actions within AH can be VERY dangerous.  Think through twice what and how you will comment on it.....actually make that no less than 3 times.  For any word or phrase that is mistaken by the unit can cause some severe reactions.

4.  In preparation for the occasional malfunction, I would suggest not putting the two computers in close proximity to each other.  (I personally have them in opposite sides of the house.)  Much like with the random spawn areas in AH, you may get suddenly surprized if you get too close.

5.  Should the Wife-Unit suddenly log off of AH without saying a word and you can hear it moving around the house, prepare yourself for the iminent engagement.  You can take for granted that the unit has already went to the hanger and loaded up every possible armament available.  The sounds of it moving around is merely its gaining of altitude so that it can have total control of the engagement.  You should RTB ASAP at this point and seek any and all flak gear that is available for your personal protection before leaving the comp and reconning the situation.  Should you procrastinate too low, and the Wife-Unit reach around 20K or so, it will hold off no longer.  The sound of the firm footsteps heading across the house in your direction is a REAL good sign that this has occured.  Go ahead and exit your vehicle/aircraft IMMEDIATELY because your chances of keeping it alive are slim to NONE.  This assault of the Wife-Unit will be like none that you have ever experienced before.  It will be relentless, calculated, and coordinated down to the utmost detail.  The unit will apply all targeting and engagement techniques that it has learned.  Your chances of withstanding this attack are similar to that of your C-47 flying into a massive furball of the other two countries' pilots.  When you finally realize this, guys, do as most P-51/LA-7 pilots do.....drop the nose and RUNNNNNNNN..........:rofl

Well, this has been a LOT of fun to write, but all kidding aside, having my wife fly in AH with me has made things better.  It takes a lot of patience and understanding on your part during the early times.  But to be able to have my wife enjoy something that I do enjoy so much, makes it even more enjoyable for me.   And besides, I get to go beat up on anyone that picks on her....:D

I am still alive and well.....there has been no attack from my Wife-Ack unit yet so it is apparant that it has not seen this thread.  But I am keeping my running shoes on and staying well aware of any terrain that I may be able to use to obscure its view/engagement should the unit come upon this thread.  :D

TY flyingfortress ....maybe you can attend my funeral when my Wife-Ack unit finds out....hehehehe
