WEll Fortress there are two camps. Some say that there will be a huge need for pilots in the future because there are a lot of current pilots about to turn 60 or 65 what ever the mandatory retirement age is.
Then there is the other camp, mostly pilots looking for jobs that say there aren't enough jobs to go around, that it's hard to get them and that with the airlines going through such hard times; i.e. United, Delta, that it is a bad career choice.
Then there is the long road and bunch of money you need to get your ratings. I.e. Private Pilot, Instrument thru ATP.
Then there is always Uncle Sam.
If you like mechanical stuff you should get your A&P and work on planes instead of bikes.
There are probably better guys in here that can better anwser the job question. I fly for fun, the acro, tho the goal is someday, doesn't pay for itself that is for sure lol.
There is an old saying in Aviation. If you want to make a million dollars in avaition........ ... ... Start with Two Million.
If your young enough and have the time and money I would say go for it. Two instructors at our school just got picked up to fly with the airlines so it's not out of reach.
