Nah, it would not. Hand grenade has a lot more power. In anycase, they are not HE rounds. But if you are right, imagine a handgrenade exploding inside or on contact with a spitfire. I don't think you would need a second ping to drop it of teh sky. Different effect on different targets is seems, but thats a whole different subject and not really a problem.

Did just a bit of research. Using modern ammunition and grenades, I compared the explosive charge and weight.

M61 fragmentation grenade: 5.5 ounces of explosive in a 16 ounce grenade.

20 mm ammunition seems to vary between 10 g (2/5 ounce) and about 25 g (about an ounce) of explosives.
