FSO: Operation Husky - Change in GVs
« on: September 16, 2005, 10:38:12 AM »
Gentlemen,

With the help of forhim and 50cals I tested the GVs in the SEA and found that there is a major issue with them.

It seems that the 75 mm HE rounds will not penetrate any vehicle no matter if it is open top or not. We pumped in over 20 rounds at under 100 yards into a M8, M3, LVT2, LVT4 and all the rounds bounced off. I fired on the back and the side of these vehicles. The only thing that could be damaged was the treads / wheels.

Both the attacking vehicle and target vehicle did move .. just in case there is a bug concerning spawned vehicles that don't travel a little bit before firing.

So over all the 75 mm HE round does NADA to armor vehicles.

However, the 37 mm AP round of the M8 killed a LVT4 at 400 yards with one hit.

Also the .50 cal machine gun on the LVT4 was able to destroy (blow up) a M8, M3, LVT2, and LVT4. The machine gun on the M3 was able to destroy the LVT4.

So we are switching to machine gun wars.

Axis get M3s (they can't load out with troops) versus the allies LVT2 (can load out with troops, etc.) and the LVT4. While the 75 mm HE round is useless versus GVs it will be needed versus buildings.

I have emailed the COs and XOs of this squad and will also explain it tonight in the frame.

I switched to machine gun wars because I really want to do the immersion of having LVTs storm the beach. Have allies spawn land vehicles from a base defeats the purpose of fun and immersion .. which is why I did not change to that.

What was REALLY cool was the immersion of floating around in the water in LVT's that wouldn't go into gear!  That was a blast.

I hope that bug gets worked out, I was really looking forward to that part of the operation and it was a huge let-down that we were basically cannon fodder.

Not sure what caused that bug but it affected the earlier spawners for the LVTs but the later spawners seemed alright.

Not sure if it is a bug in the code .. I have had that happen in the MA once this month. Or caused by a massive spawn. Next time will advise the CiCs to has squads spawn one at a time in case the server freaked out because of the mass spawn.

I aApologize for server issues.

Ok I am a newbie to AH only been here for 8-9 Months but I have to say

Ghost Why the F.... are you apologising for a bug in the software.

You and others spent your own unpaid(?) time testing and found that the LVT 100mm is useless you did something to fix that and someone still manages to ***** and whine......

The BOO HOO attitude :cry on this BBS is BS

If you or any of the other CM's need assistance with testing then just contact me via the BBS.

Will be happy to help.

Golly, I didn't see me doing the cry baby thing... In fact it says that I hope it gets fixed and I was looking forward to it and thought it was a let down.

Who's got the attitude Muss?

Anyhow, everyone, myself inclusive knows that the game mechanics are beyond the control of the Events staff.

The bug happened, I was disappointed by it and I posted to that effect.  If the board isn't here for our thoughts Mussie, for what reason do we have it?

Was I riding the event staff about it?  No.

I fear the day when we can't post an opinion in here.  I'm happy it took three days for anyone to whine that I did post that opinion.  I would have been concerned if it happened sooner.

Anyhow, Sled and GD, If you felt I was getting on you guys about the game bug (which I don't think ya did since until Mussie came along you didn't say anything) I apologize.

I know my game bugs from my events, thank you very much.

Mussie, all that aside, your remark really gets under my skin - If you want to give the guys a Compliment or a high-five for the work they do, thats cool.. But don't turn my remarks into something they aren't so you can try to make yourself look like the good guy.

Kurt I think You should read Ghosts post and then yours mate

IE:
Ghost  Said:
"Have allies spawn land vehicles from a base defeats the purpose of fun and immersion"

You Said:
"What was REALLY cool was the immersion of floating around in the water in LVT's that wouldn't go into gear! That was a blast."

It sure sounded like a smart arse remark to me... And it really got under my skin...

OK now that I have returned your Biach slap.

I would like to say "No hard feelings"

You have stated that you were not having a dig at Ghost and I apologise If I offended you....  Again It sure sounded like a dig but I will stand corrected.

And If ya don't accept my olive branch then ya can just take me to the DA and try to Whoomp my arse.....

Your Call

Fair enough, case closed...

P.S. The first sentance WAS a smart arse remark... But it wasn't anything more than that.  It was a peck at my frustration, nothing more.

Coral Sea had the same bug. It's caused by the wind.  If wind is turned off at sea level the drifting goes way and LVTs work normally.

Btw next FSO is "1942: Pacific Pin salamanders" ... basically after Pearl Harbor and up to Coral Sea the USN launched a series of hit and run raids through out the Pacific aimed at keeping the IJN and IJA off guard.

So the next FSO will be the frame 1: raid on Rabaul/ New Britain, frame 2: raid on Lae in New Guinea, frame 3: raid on Tulagi in the Solomons.

Now  I just have to write up the description and get into the event server.

But F4Fs, SBDs, P40s, possible twin engine or quad engine bomber versus the A6M2, Val, Kate, and looking for a sub for a bomber.

All I know is Silverfox had trouble with LVTs drifting when testing Coral Sea.  He found out that wind was the cause.  There wasn't a way to set wind to zero at sea level and still have wind at 20 knots at 50 above sea level.  He wanted wind because without it carrier operations would be too easy.  Since Coral Sea needed both wind and LVTs he decided to use only a south wind which would help to blow the LVTs directly to shore near Port Moresby.  I don't know the ins and outs of setting up an arena but if you like for me to contact him to explain it better I'd be happy to.  just let me know.
