"What they didn't steal they trashed," Richmond said, gazing through a window of her shop, before the soldiers were able to break open the door. "They got what they could and ruined what they left."

It was a scene repeated over and over Saturday as business owners were allowed back in to some sections of the city to begin the long process of cleaning up and rebuilding.

A majority of the N.O. residents personify everything that is wrong with America, IMO.

Rip, I've said it before.. those are OUR refugees; OUR looters, OUR Somalia.

This is NOT racist commentary.

This is proof positive that the welfare system is broken. The education system is broken. The Local government is broken. The state government is broken. The federal government is broken.

Time folks looked at the evidence, admitted failure and started on fixing the damn problem instead of just denying the truth.

Or maybe do something about it...

Thomas Jefferson himself, expected that the people should rebel if the Government  gets as bad as it is today....He gave the Constitution which we operated on for 200+ years about 20 years before it should have been replaced.

Here's one quote from a letter to James Madison

"I hold it that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical. Unsuccessful rebellions, indeed, generally establish the encroachments on the rights of the people which have produced them. An observation of this truth should render honest republican governors so mild in their punishment of rebellions as not to discourage them too much. It is a medicine necessary for the sound health of government."

And here's the Other about our rebellion against england.

"And can history produce an instance of rebellion so honourably conducted? I say nothing of it's motives. They were founded in ignorance, not wickedness. God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. "

You see..you aren't supposed to just leave it to the government to change the government.

It also proves that we're about a week and a half away from the third world (if that).

watch out MT will come in here and tell you about two different pictures taken by two different photographers and given two different captions based on the authors eye witness acounts completly shows that it's all racism that we see and nothing else.

Then Raider will come in here and argue his poor little heart out being proven wrong every turn and bringing up facts from fantasy land.

And then the thread will get locked.

Looks like the angels of death are already hovering over this thread.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Hold on

You ever think that the threat racism itself hurts this problem?  Seriously, we could have some of the greatest minds in this country that want to fix some of these problems but don't dare say anything bad (even statistically factual) about minorities for fear of being branded a racist.

For the last 2 weeks I've been saying this is a racial cry of wolf.  Some people really need to let go of their anger and their politics and fix this.

Personally if Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson spent as much time telling their people to:  1. finish High School and try for college  2.  Don't have kids until you are married 3.  Don't get married until you are financially secure, as they do blaming Bush  There'd be alot fewer problems in this world.

I agree but its time people stopped looking to their party as the solution. Both parties are part of the problem.

We need a real look at the problems and real solutions not more BS from both parties.  Partisan politics just screws us an gives them more power.

Thankfully the rioting and looting of peoples own neighborhoods in the current New Oreleans tragedy is unprecedented for inner city american communities. So we have no cause to think it will happend again under similar stressful situations and thus there is no reason to ask uncomforable questions.

just why would we not expect the same thing to happen in say LA after a massive quake, or in any other major city following a major disaster?

Gunslinger hit it on the head.  The flipping minorities have been coddled for so long on the teat of welfare and socialism, this is what we get as a result.

This is a problem not only in NO, but across the whole of America.
I regret doing business with TD Computer Systems.

I'm dubious about the use of the word 'unprecedented'. I saw the Watts riot, younger folk from out there may recall a minor (by comparison) disturbance in south central.

When SHTF, it's always the neighborhoods where the participants live that suffer first and the most.

LOL
Hell, when rioting and looting starts over winning a basketball title I don`t really think it takes much to be used for an excuse.
Unprecedented ? Hardly.
