IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
« on: July 27, 2000, 03:17:00 PM »
We are all gathered here today to say goodbye to an old and trusty friend, Napster (TM).
This afternoon the court ordered them to close their servers and pack up by friday midnight. This is a sad turn of events, Napster, only being 9 months old was the most promising, competent company on the net. We will miss our old music finding/trading companion and move on to greener pastures  (Napster clone companies). Now lets break out the beer and the brewsters and start the killing.

Did you read what Gnutella is ?

Enjoy, but make sure you share specific directories in the setup, if you don't want to have an open door to naughty persons...

Good thing about it, it's NOT foixed to MP3's

Use the last ip on the FAQ page as the sever (in the examples) as a start...

Have fun

Good buy to those theives!

Maybe being a musician taints my view, but I don't see why somebody who spends $500,000 +  to record and album should sit by while somebody steels THIER intilectual property.

You can go to  Napster and d/l every song from every rock and roll album. You can then reverse burn it onto CD.  I don't see any diference than walking into a record store taking any metallica CD, putting it in your pocket and walking out of the store without paying for the CD.

If you want free music, do what I did.  Learn to play an instrument and write your own songs, or listen to the radio (who btw have to pay the music unions to play the music, bars do too if they have a juke box)

This and freehost are in the same box to me...

If I read correctly, it just said they have to shut down their servers till the end of the trial. if they win the trial, they can turn them back on.

I'm with Udie on this, I felt guilty about each and everyone one of them 200 songs I grabbed off Napster.

I agree Udie!  While I cannot play ANY instrument I'm tired of all these people who want something for nothing.

If you guys can pay $30 a month to HiTech then you can afford to buy a cd.

Napster is a cool idea and will likely stay around for the bands that want their songs heard and this is how it "should" be used.

I can't tell you how many CD's I have bought after hearing the songs first on Napster, plus how many new bands I have heard of, bought the CD, and showed a friend.
