Just use the Dallas/Fort Worth metro area for Grapevine.  It's way to far inland to get a hurricane.  Rain and tornados are another story altogether though.  For reference, pull it back just so you can see NO on the map next to the coast.

I dont trust maps..
if you just happen to hold them the wrong way for some reason the world doesnt keep up with that rotation and you get lost.

Duh!

Because his puppetmaster, Cheney, wants even more contracts for Halliburton.

It's now CAT 5 with 150MPH sustained.  My brother lives in Pasadena (suburb of Houston built next to most of the refineries).  Hope he has enough of the brain cells left that he cooked off in his 20's to get outta there.

This is the wind path that a storm like this has as far as severe high wind destruction,(yellow is 39 mph, red is the bad stuff!)  The signature of the high winds are smaller than I expected, but it does not diminish the intensity of the overall storm with storm surge and flooding combined with high winds. Its like a huge F2 Fujita scale tornado!

Does anyone know what the roads out of Katy are like? Anyone from Katy know which is the best way out? The 10 to San Antonio okay?

My niece and her mom are there getting ready to leave.

Well he wants to see oil @$100/barrel for his oil buddies. Plus, as a real stroke of genius, he can claim that he isn't playing God with the American public because after all, who would be willing to hit his own state?

Seriously, these hurricanes are taking a dangerous turn for the lethal in their classifications. As Rip's post shows, it's a trend of the past several years.

Is it possible of "global warming" having an influence?

Also, hurricanes are somewhat unpredictable as Katrina was initially supposed to hit Florida.

you are right, its for the first time a Hurricane cat5 in a one season.
The water in the gulf is still very warm, and the missing coldfronts from the north.
Hope Rita will lose some energy towards the land, but right now
the air pressure in the eye dropped down to 904 hPa!
