****ing Rebates!
« on: September 23, 2005, 01:38:40 PM »
A few weeks ago, I ordered the DirecTV DVR. The deal was that there would be a $100 rebate.

I ordered the service online.

Today, I received the rebate form from DirecTV in the mail.

Here's what they want.

1. I need to fill out the form with my name, account number, and the order confirmation number.

2. A copy of the DirecTV programming bill (FROM ****ING DIRECTV) showing activation of the service.

What the hell? This is the gawdamned information age! Do they even have a CIO? Why am I even involved? One department at DirecTV cannot communicate with another without my intervention?

****ing idiots.

They are just hoping you will think it is a hassle and forget about it.

The thing that most people don't understand regarding rebates is that they are, for the most part, not handled by the company offering you the rebate. They are processed by outside companies. i.e. outsourced. Also, it is by design that they make it tedious to apply for the rebate. That way a larger % of people will just forget about it.

Rebates are not a selling point for me. In fact they do exactly the opposite.

Exactly.

Same thing with the store rebates. they give you your sales slip and a coupon to fill out as well as all sort of other instructions to follow figuring  many people wont even bother

I agree.. however, he probably got such a huge bonus that he bought a small island with no extradition agreement.

Now if we, the consumers, would just band together and boycott those companies that utilize the mail-in rebates, then we could get those infernal things out of our lives.
