The Saitek Evo is a decent entry level joystick providing you 8-way views (easily modified for 16) twist handle rudder input and a throttle slider. Price is under $40.

Two cautions:
1. forget about the Saitek programming software; it sucks. You can program all stick assignments with the AH joystick setup.
2. spend the extra few bucks for a replacement warranty. Evo's are known to develop drift and nose bounce after awhile.

Played AH using a mouse for 3 years now.

Own a stick but prefer mouse, sounds daft I know but I can hold my own in MA using old squeeky.

Matter of personal pref. my prob was I started flights sims with the mouse and can't get used to the stick.

Each to their own.

Yep, no lies, have flown mousey mousey for my whole AH career.

Use the number pad arrows for looking around, rudder keys A(L),S(C),D(R).

Not the best pilot by a long shot but through trial and error found the ideal kite for mouse flying in the Hurricane IIc.

Like the Spit V/Seafire too but seem to hold my own better in the Churri.

Saitek's EVO is a good stick, although I broke the trigger right away.  Thrustmaster's Top Gun Fox2 Pro has held up for me for over a year.

I think, for the vast majority of pilots, using a joystick is by far the best way to go.

I like the CH Products Flightstick Pro.  It's about $75 from Amazon.com and buy.com.

The programming software is GREAT, far easier to learna nd use than the in game option.

If you are unsure of how to use the software, download the manual from Siatek, it'll explain a lot.

The macro thing is, well, interesting. You can record JS inputs and assign 1 key to re-play them. After 10+ tries I recorded a snap roll of sorts, I tested it out and it works just as advertised.

Yet somehow according to the stats I tend to get a K/D ratio of 3/1, or as in this tour 4/1, weird that eh?

Your stats ain't that mightily impressive compared to mine either and hey, let's not forget, I have an excuse, I fly with a mouse!!

I work on the premise that if I manage to land more kills in a ride than deths then I must be doing something right, regardless of how many I "chalk" up per sortie?!

Plenty of times I can up and return with assists and no kills, annoying but fact of the game.
If I make it back home, kills or no kills, that does it for me!

I pay/play for fun, fly with a mouse and that's it. Like I said I own a stick but prefer the mouse.

If you live/play by stats fair enough.

This is where it tells you how many kills you have compared to deaths for the current and previous tours.
Kite by kite, or gv by gv and so on.

Shows you kills scored in each kite and the respective number of deaths in it too.
No ratios, no rankings, no mathematical calcs just exactly as it happens in the game.

Type in Smiggy, and I only have the one account.

smiggy: 198 kills, 49 deaths.
tw9: 397 kills, 124 deaths.
