Right... speculating on what Clinton may or may not have done in the same situation is as silly as arguing over who would win a fight between Superman and Spiderman.

*sigh*

Anyway, name-calling aside...

The line that impressed me most was this: "Either you are with us or you are with the terrorists."

Great use of subtlety there. The meaning is quite different from saying, "Either you are with us or against us."

I understand why the newsweenies are looking for a performance artist.  It sells advertising.  But what the hell do we care.  If the President had just stuttered out.  "We are going to kick their ass.  And we aint gonna quit until we do".  That would have been enough for me.

Not this American. Bush's decision to make defeating terrorism the focus of his administration has only highlighted his inadequacies as a leader.

Ouch. Can't say I like Bush or even voted for him, but he is the president and I doubt very seriously if Gore would have been any better in the current situation.

The task at hand is a difficult one and it was not considered a key issue during the elections.

We are where we are and I support the president and his chosen cabinet. I trust that they will get us through this.

I, for one, wasn't saying that Gore would be better in this situation.

I was just pointing out that none of you rabid conservatives really know how a Gore administration would be dealing with this situations.  It might make you feel better to think that it would be dropping the ball big time, but that is just a fantasy to make yourself feel better/superior.

I would also reccomend expanding your view of patriotism if you think that Bush is patriotic and Gore is not. Patriotism is more complex than that.

George W. Bush is the President and I don't know what posseses you guys to use this event to take pot shots at the other side.

Bush simply said, "hey, you pissed me off, now I'm gonna kick your ass!"

Great speach.

lol no kiddin.....

GORE: mmmkay everybody, now understand the 'freedomly-challenged' al qaida are goin through a tough time right now and they have some issues.

they have done some real mean stuff but i sent them a few emails with the red exclamation mark selected, saying we should talk. i expect to hear back any day now.

soon we will probably realize that white republican males hurt their feelings one time and that's the root of all of this. it's not their fault. they are victims and just need love.

let's all meet at cantara's and journal through some rage over cafe americanos.

then we'll catch the life empowering drum circle together out at the beach and really share our feelings.....everybody! kumbayaaaa m'lord....

what a load that would be! i don't know about you all, but this hippy is sharpening his roach clip and getting ready for the worst. at least we have a leader with some balls.  :)

Fd-Ski:

When they open a History Book 100 years from now there will be a long list of US Presidents.  Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Nixon, Reagan, and Bush will be names people will take note of.

There will be long paragraphs detailing their lives, their roles in history, etc.

Your boy, Slick-Willie Clinton, will be just a footnote.  Another Millard Fillmore-type President with a brief "Born-Died" line after his name.

Some men make history, and history sometimes makes men.  And some men just party and ride the rockin' chair of Good Times and disappear into oblivion......

Solemly depends on who writes the book Cabby.

"Your slick Willie" ? Well, i'm pretty sure that my Slick Willie will never be a president, you can't vote for a noodle, you'd have to vote for me. Interested ?

Sadly, I believe you may be right... perhaps he is showing good leadership, but it seems to me he's just urging us along. He certainly doesn't need to lead us where we're going, he just has to carry a stick and walk in front. I don't know if anyone could do better though. I certainly hope so. Because the way things are going don't look good, and won't contribute much in the long run.

"Bush's decision to make defeating terrorism the focus of his administration has only highlighted his inadequacies as a leader."

Do tell Ispar.

What should be the "focus of his administration"?
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!
