The speach was alright.  One of his better performances.  Public speaking has never been Bush's strong point though.

As to the other comment.  If you want to fool yourself and congratulate yourself on who you voted for by insinuating that some nightmare would be unfolding if the other guy had won, fine.  Just don't expect that it has any bearing in reality. If Gore was President we would all be rallying around him and it is nigh certain that this theoretical Gore administration would be doing things very similarly to what the Bush administration is doing.

I have seen a short summary of the speech of President Bush this morning on German TV at 8am (It was held at 3am german time).

I agree with the analysis of German TV that the speech was average, because "Bush told everything which was expected but he didnt say anything unexpected or innovative".

The important thing is, that Bush is successfully raising the morale of the US-Americans. And here he does a good job.

I thought it was a pretty good speech really. I was stuck away from a TV and heard it all over the radio instead. I just finished watching the video of it a few minutes ago and wow... It's amazing how much better it was without cameras cutting to say, Orin Hatch wiping his nose on the sleeve of his suit etc.

I can see how some people may say that Bush didn't say anything new or innovative... but ya gotta remember that up to this point we've never actually heard him state his intentions to the extent that he did tonight. Clinton woulda given a better speech I think. But from Bush I really just wanted him to tell us what he was prepared to *do* about this toejam... And he said everything I wanted to hear.

Well... he gave the first part of the ultimatum but didn't he leave out the "or else" part?

Never mind... he got to that later... "share their fate..."

The speech good one. It did what it was suppose to do...let our foe know beyond a doubt where we stand and bring the American people and our allies togather. This could be something that will be replayed much like FDR's speech IF history plays out in our hand...

Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

Kinda like Roosevelt when he addressed Congress on December 11th, 1941.  He gave inspiration to the Senate floor, and to Americans.  Bush did the same thing.  This speech, mark my words, will go down in history  as those of Churchill and Roosevelt in their times of crisis.

After the speech Peter Jennings asked "Stormin Norm" what his impression was.

Norm replied that first he didn't draw a line in the sand, he bulldozed a bloody huge trench. Next, he let the public and the armed forces know exactly what they are in for. Which is exactly what the Military needed to hear.

Great speech

A well written speech, and Bush did a good job of delivering it.

I think it might have been better politics to draw the line between "free nations" and terrorists, rather than "us" and terrorists.  It would be much easier for some governments to align themselves with "freedom", than it will be for them to align with the USA.

CLINTON!?

Clinton would have said "I feel your pain" about a dozen times then give Bin-laden all of our military secrets while screwing a camel.

Sorry if we are going to war I would rather have the Death Penalty President then the Lying Pimp President
I have been reborn a new man!

Notice I never said a better man.

Impressive, historical speech. Couldn't have been much better in my opinion. It was limited in scope, but it hit the target. We see Bush's genuine toughness and empathy for people, and the level of his personal commitment to fighting terrorism. This guy is genuinely tough inside. He displayed leadership too, which helped convince some who had reservations about his ability to lead.

(I had to chuckle everytime the camera cut away to Hillary Clinton, who had a very bored, disgusted and cynical look on her face. I don't think that will win her any support from New Yorkers, or anybody else for that matter.)

There is a difference! With Gore and Clinton you have a WIMP and a PIMP, with Bush you have a Patriot, something this country hasn't had enough of in years.

Infamy? Are you sure?  ;)
