Gloster G.41 Meteor. Please, please please!
« on: September 30, 2005, 07:06:30 AM »
Meteor FIII would be nice Santa. I assume ACs in Aces High have to have been operational during WWII so the F8 version would be out. Shame - Gyro gunsight,Martin Baker ejector seat, RR Derwent 8s with 3600lbs thrust and a top speed of nearly 600mph.
Anyways, the MkIII - the last mark to see action in WWII -  had 2000lb Derwents (though 15 had 1700lb Wellends) four 20mm cannon, a max speed of 415mph at 10 thousand, a ceiling of 40,000 feet (!) and would make a good addition to the stable of British planes.
I promise to be good and will leave a glass of milk, some cookies and a carrot for Rudolph.

KD:)

I'd like a GO229.

The Meteor Mk III actually flew and fought, unlike the Go229 which did neither.

Is that a requirement for a wish Karnak?

No, really. I have nothing against Meteor. Did'n realize it was that slow at10k. Why does it have its best speed at so low altitude?

Why let the Germans have all the jet fighters?

Because the germans actually got squadrons of them in the air and actually fought against other pilots with them :P

Never heard that.
Meteor ill probably come one day and carry a perk tag cheaper than 262
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

If anything it will be unstoppable by even the best prop fighters (the 262 is a joke in AH). It should be perked more! If a 262 is 200 perkies, Meteor would probably be 300. Guns alone make it worth that. The improved turn fighting capabilities make up for anything else. A 262 can't turn fight at all. Too slow and lumbering. Can't out turn any plane in the game (not even a Lancaster with 14k bombload :P )

The meteor should not be in AH if you ask me.

Shooting down unarmed drones doesn't count as combat to me. Sure it's part of the war effort, but as for fighting in the war? I remain skeptical (yes yes yes, I've heard the arguments).

Do you have any data and reports of the Meteor.
I've seen one doing rather nice maneuvers and seeing was just a bit of it - the engine sound is really funny.
Anyway, it did a very slow, low alt loop, so I'd imagine that thing could probably turn well also.
As for the guns, well, a matter of choice. I mean a 262 can kill you with only 1 shot!
But it can not catch a 262 - AFAIK the 262 is a good bit faster. So the Meteor sort of sits inbetween the prop fighters and the 262.
I have very little data on the ROC and the roll rate, - the 262 performs those well. And dive speeds limit.
Well IMHO, if the 262 is here as well as the 163, - the question is about the Meteor and the Heinkel jet.

An He-162 would be interesting, but it's probably too mean for the MA without a perk tag higher than a 262. Much lighter, so it would accelerate faster, climb faster, and out turn a 262. 2x30mm (He-162-A1 destroyer version) or 2x20mm (He-162-A2 air superiority) versions available.  553mph top speed @ low alt, 562mph @ 20k. Since we don't have mechanical problems here, the only thing bad about it is the 30 minutes of gas (15 minutes MA time).. but at those insane speeds, not a terribly big problem.

Me262 isn't a joke at all, properly flown it's a real killer in AH.
