I'm not sure its racism, more like opportunism against a very vulnerable and isolated group.

Tho It's intersting how liberals automatically jump to conclusions too.. :)

It does not say they are illegal so I would have to assume they are not.  They just happen to be easy targets.  I do not like having illegals in our country but I have a lot of respect for these people for the fact that they are very family orientated and hard workers.

I hope like hell that the people that did this are caught.  You may find that when they go to prison that their lives will be in danger from the same group that they targeted on the streets.

Sounds more like extortion than racism.  They know the immigrants won't call the police or arm themselves on account of getting in trouble themselves.

I'm starting to understand the reasons for helping unauthorized immigrants to become legal citizens, so they don't have to live in fear and just take it.

The field workers need to be armed at all times without fear of govt. retribution.  The police should, and probably do, respect the right of the immigrants to defend themselves and their families, whether they're here legally or not.

If they don't already, the police need to turn a blind eye when a firearm is found in possession of one of these field immigrants.  If they have to use it for self defence, it needs to be counted as that without the immigration status being a factor.

If an illegal farm worker is found with a firearm I would hope that he would be sent back home without any futher action being taken on the firearm if it has not been used in a crime.  Letting Illegals stay in this Country hurts the one who are here legally and I can not support letting them stay but I do feel they have a right to protect themselves from physical harm.

It costs money to lock someone up that's why I prefer him being sent home.  I work in a prison and we have way to many inmates.  It's gotten so crowded here that we have two inmates per cell in MAX.  Lieber was designed for only 800 inmate in 1986 and we now have 1500 with only 1/3 the officers now as we had back then.

Besides I don't consider an illegal alian to be a criminal, I just don't want them in our country.

It's not racism, it opportunism. Something like this was happening hear in N. Florida recently. These people (legal and illegal) are almost always paid in cash. The bad guys know this. They also know when pay day is. Luckily no one here was killed, just robbed. It is one of the untold problems of illegal immigration. If there was a worker program these workers could be paid properly and have bank accounts. They would not be such easy targets.

Here in Moscow it's militia (police) who extorts money from illegals and people who employ them. Every day they show militia raids on their dwellings, means that their employers didn't "share".

I think that it's better to give them some support and let them work with common 13% income tax then to keep them as victims of militia racket. When a Tajik or Moldavian construction worker dies here - they simply bury him in a hole on a construction ground... :( They will always get here, no force will be able to keep them off, and if it will - still 90% of Muskovites will never take the job they do.

Did I miss something in the story that mentioned who commited these crimes?  Are they the good ol Georgia crackers (seems to be Sandys assumption) or other Illegals that decided tis easier to rob than work?
