Some of our russian friends have this version of NYC skyline on their site...

Skyline

Hit the http://geovoit.narod.ru/Raznoye/NEW_york.jpg link on the orange background or just copy and paste this one into the Address bar.

Saw it on some Russian sites already. It's just as funny as a Sophia cathederal in Constantinopolis turned into a mosque.  :(

Miko, what surprises me is that you seem to raise hatred towards Russians. Why? Is it only because you declare yourself a "former Russian, now - American"?...

Russia is fighting with "native" Moslim terrorism for the last 10 years. Maybe we understand it much better then you.

Most of the Russians really felt stunned by the NYC tragedy. While noone in the West gave a flying f#$k about Moscow bombings in September, 1999, and kept that hypocritic ranting about "human rights violation" in Chechnya. Everyone supported bombings of Yugoslavia, while Serbs were fighting the same enemy that hit you now.

People here pity the people who died in WTC. We know how it feels when some bastard blows up your neighbours or relatives. But speaking about USA as a state or regime - many people say they don't feel sorry.

My personal opinion is that now we have a unique chance to unite against terrorism. Taliban is a much greater threat to Russia then to the US, and I expect Russian officials to involve into the operation. That will result in another wave of terrorint acts against us...

Miko, if you want to see some opinions from ordinary Russians - look here:
 http://www.sukhoi.ru/cgi-bin/forum/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=5&t=000344

It's a thread about WTC on an IL-2 forum. It will be very interesting to hear you opinion.

Not a mystery to me. I'm just wondering if you're warning that this could happen, or just that some people want it to?

I am sorry you've got this impression. Even in that particular post I was carefill to say Some of our russian friends.
I am sure no one will think worse about all russians because of thas stupid picture.
I probably should have mentioned that most of the posts on the same russian board were supportive of americans - for fairness sake. My mistake.

Before referring people to this picture, I posted much harsher messages on this board about americans.
One was my disgust about what I saw on Friday after the tragedy in Union Square.
The other one implied that americans are a nation of cowards (Devils Advocate).
Make no mistake, I am an american, but I feel and have expresed on this board my shame for what we allowed to happen due to our conceipt and stupidity.

In fact I posted that picture not because I disliked russians but because I dislike the way americans are behaving.
Right now we do all kinds of flag waving and posting funny pictures of our enemies and assurances in their destruction.
I wanted to illustrate that the outcome of the struggle is far from determined. So far we have been caught with our pants down. We were living in a glass house and throwing stones. We might have been right in most cases but stupid nevertheless.
The terrorists are smart people and know what they are doing.
We have probably as much chance to supress the terrorism as the radical muslim fundamentalists have of taking control of the whole Middle East with it's oil productuion, or at least disrupting that production to hell.

People here pity the people who died in WTC... But speaking about USA as a state or regime - many people say they don't feel sorry.
That is ignorance speaking. We may allegedly have a lousy state or regime but that is because of US democracy. Being fulled for the past hundred years, russians cannot believe that we have real democracy but it is true that we do.
People who worked and died in the towers had as much (or more) say in the way our country is run as anyone else. We all equally deserved and allowed that tragedy to happen.
Anyone who feels sorry for dead americans but gloats over the trouble to our regime is just ignorant.

 Both, but mostly warning.

 See my previous post.

Some very capable people are working on just that or even worse outcome for us. Many of us are helping them - by buying gas-guzzling cars, sending millions to terrorists in IRA or billions to drug-lords all over the world.

I don't think any american born and raised citizen of the world can fully appreciate the incredible test of fire placed upon the backs of the russian people over the last 100 years.. add in the 200 years previous to that and it's amazing indeed that these folks arn't the most xneophobic on the planet.

I have yet to meet in person a Russian I didnt like. They seem to me to be more American than I am.. I'd suggest to all the knee-jerk russian hating reactionaries out there that yer desperately in need of having yer brains re-wiped.  ;)

Cut 'em some slack. It would appear we got more than a few 'dissedents' cropping up on campuses right here in the good 'ol USA.

Putin, who impresses me as a well oiled snake, seems quite intent on assisting Coalition efforts against the Taliban, and that is good.

On the other side of the coin, the fact that we have been 'aiding' moslem efforts in serbia are somewhat confused with the reality of the situation..

WE DO NOT CONDONE ETHNIC CLEANSING; REGARDLESS OF WHO'S DOIN IT!

What may have been 'routine' warfare in that region for 1000 years does not make it appropriate behavior for a civilized society NOW. We may have got involved a mite late, but our goals are just...
The price of Freedom is the willingness to do sudden battle, anywhere, any time and with utter recklessness...

...at home, or abroad.

When I saw this post I made a promise to myself that I would give it an almighty punt in half a year.

Here we are.

Too bad those folks decided to yank the picture (mosques and temples crowding the lower Manhattan skyline)...  (can anyone dig up that picture again?)

shreck em. That picture and the attitude that went along with it pissed me off.

Naive... fools...
