Sure wish the rest of the country had the same exam so we could have a point of comparison.

I am the last to defend non english speakers and most of all... any public school system... both should dissapear in my opinion but..

In the case of the local school... two non native english speakers (mexicans) learned to speak entglish in two years and got A's in math.   they passed their english classes but...

The exit exam had mya angelou frigging poetry in it!   that was the "english" portion...

I don't even know what the broad is trying to say.... why would they?

How would any of us do on a foreign language skill test if we had to translate obscure and idiotic poetry in that language?

just more public school nonsense in my opinion...

mt.. I think you missed the point... it was the exit exam for english that asked for the meaning of passages of poetry that were  obscure and stupid... that is not a true test of english comprehenssion in my mind... Nor is shakespear... it is good to read and enjoy but it is not anything to do with english language comprehenssion...

I find that the fact that you think that blacks are treated unfairly when they can't understand simple english and aren't given tests in ebonics to be ironic in light of your seeming to want non native english speakers to understand shakespear and of all things... angelou.... maybe you thought I said..... angela davis?

I liked David Alan Grier's impersonation of Maya Angelou. Anybody got a video?

But the report by the Virginia-based Human Resources Research Organization showed that tens of thousands of students, particularly those in special education and others who speak English as a second language, may fail the test by the end of their senior year despite remedial classes, after-school tutoring and other academic help.

And this is the teachers' fault?  Maybe you should spend a week observing a special needs or an ESL class.  Watch what the teachers go through and do for their students.  You will be amazed.  After that, maybe you will know which is failing the students, the teachers or the test.

I will be the first to say that there are some horrible teachers out there.  However, I find that the vast majority work very hard and go above and beyond what they need to for their students.  Most even try to get through to the kids that have no desire to even try to succeed in the class.

I really don't understand California politics.  I watch TV and all I see is adds from both sides.

1.  Prop 71-9 are bad and the Gov. will be killing cancer ridden orphans

2.  Props whatever are the best thing for California since the beach boys and the other sides are idiots

They pose two COMPLETLY different viewpoints of what these propositions do.  I mean they are 180 out.  What's the point?  Can't people be trusted to read plain english in black and white (translated at the cost of taxpayers to 5 other major languages and available apon request into 10 others) what these laws actually do??
