Seems like a dead end. Why would you stay there?

Screw the unemployment, who needs it?  You have at least 60 days to find a job.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I am rather tied to California.

I bought my mom's house in January to keep her from losing it (I'd been making the payments on it for about a year prior to buying it).  So I've got that responsibility that I have to take care of.

As others have said, you now have 60 days to find a job.

That said, why don't you proactively approach the likely purchaser of the product? Say that you're really enthusiastic about the future and that you're looking to pursue your career alongside this product under the new ownership, but... Get them to give you a very generous relocation package.

i work construction and am on u/i for many weeks a year and i can give you some advice of things you can do in preparation that may up your weekly rate to around $100 more than the california max.
