There is a full scale mockup of most of the Yamato. It was made for a movie to be released this December.

190 m of the original 230 m length were built full scale. It's still available for public viewing until March of next year.

The fight for Okinawa was the bloodiest american campaign of the war. We took such a significant drubbing that the use of the bomb was formulated to preclude an even worse drubbing and bloodbath expected in an Invasion of Japan.

The loss of Yamato did not dissuade the Japanese one bit.

I wouldn't be so sure. From what I've read, Japan was looking for a way out before we dropped the bomb.

Unfortunately for them, they shouldn't have trusted Russia to carry the message.

Always blame the Russians!!! :lol

When they tried to pass the message - USSR already had obligations to start a war with Japan no later then 3 months after victory in Europe. BTW, I don't know if the "message" wasn't passed to the US. The answer to Japan was that USSR doesn't want to be a conciliator in peace talks with the US.

Well don't worry, although it was blown up and sunk during WW2 the Yamato will someday be salvaged and used in a desperate mission to save the Earth from evil aliens bent on destroying us with pollution.

[Cue Music]

"We're off to outer space
We're leaving Mother Earth
To save the human race
Our Star Blazers

Searching for a distant star
Heading off to Iscandar
Leaving all we love behind
Who knows what danger we'll find?

We must be strong and brave
Our home we've got to save
If we don't in just one year
Mother Earth will disappear

Fighting with the Gamilons
We won't stop until we've won
Then we'll return and when we arrive
The Earth will survive
With our Star Blazers"

Sorry I try to keep my childhood under control but it pops up occasionally....

Loved that show Seagoon!

I used to draw that Starblazers ship all the time as a kid, but slowly started to make it look like an Iowa.

The Yamato has to be the most overated combat ship of all time.

LOL please,

the Schrarnhorst wasnt even a real battleship.

The Iowa would laugh at it as it sunk.
