Crop Duster flight manuals found

Heard on the radio that C/Duster aircraft flight manuals were found in connection with suspected terrorists...

Not good. I guess it was only a matter of time before these nightmarish ideas of mass murder became real  :(

i would not worry too much, a MD on that show said it's hard to keep a bio-hazard alive under those conditions.

that terrorist went to a flight school and said he didn't want to learn to takeoff or land , just to fly, they called the cops and he was in sitting in jail on 9-11, the feds have him now.

John,

There are many toxins and bio weapons that are dry and easily spread through a crop duster. There are also poisons that could be dropped. This was taken seriously as the FAA did specifically ground crop dusters and drafted additional regs covering them. They are now prohibited from flying over populated areas. That will make it hard to get maintenance at times but the FAA isn't necessarily the brightest bulb in the Govt store.

The freaking regs are changing on a hourly basis right now. VFR flight was just released and flight instruction was allowed to start up again today. There are lots of new restrictions regarding airspace including prohibition of flight in a specific radius of sporting events.

Class B airspace, like that around MAJOR airports, has been changed and small aircraft aren't even allowed in it unless they are IFR to that space as a destination. There are other restrictions as well.

Sigh, flying has gotten more complicated thanks to those amazinhunk terrorists.

A lot of the new airspace regs have been underway for months. One of the boys (working out of Oakland Center) has been working on new regs since march when the FAA decided to create new lanes and traffic patterns.  There have been a lot of scrambling to re-do a lot of it in the last week. but a lot of it was already in the works before 091101.  He is in a week long session working on them right now.
What he does not tell me is if they (the Govt.) had information beforehand that made them start these actions, or if it was just coincidence?

"The Alibekov anthrax became fully operational in 1989. It is an amber-gray powder, finer than bath talc, with smooth, creamy particles that tend to fly apart and vanish in the air, becoming invisible and drifting for miles. The Alibekov anthrax is four times more efficient than the standard product.

...

When I assured him I wouldn't, he told me the formula for the Alibekov anthrax. He uttered just one sentence. The Alibekov anthrax is simple, and the formula is somewhat surprising, not quite what you'd expect. Two unrelated materials are mixed with pure powdered anthrax spores."

But Rip is right, smallpox is the dinger. A smallpox outbreak would cause massive disruption to our way of life, since:

A. It is HIGHLY contagious, airborne, bloodborne.

B. Hardly anyone in the US is vaccinated.

C. There's not enough vaccine on hand to handle a decent-sized epidemic.

There's also a really good story linked at the top of that page describing the dangers.

I don't think these guys are sophisticated enough to mess around with biological weapons and if they did have it the more logical time to do it would have been when our security wasn't as tight.

I realize it small pox may be a remote possibility. I was vaccinated in my early childhood and hopefully my body is still immunized. However I have a 3 1/2 year old lovely daughter born on my birthday that is daddy's little girl. She is not vaccinated.

If someone or group ever does something to harm her, I have always quietly thought to myself that even when compared to hell their suffering would be legendary.

Heard on one of the new shows tonight that Smallpox was generally considered eradicated in the early '70's. The Doc said that he doubted that any children in the US had been innoculated since ~ '73- '74.

So basically, if they have this stuff.. and Iraq is thought to have done some research into it...
Everybody in the US that's younger than 30 is at risk.

Smallpox is one of the more "spreadable" diseases too.

BTW, the Doc also said we don't have any vaccine for it now and it will be around 2004 before we have a meaningful supply.

Haven't researched his comments but if true... very ugly.

well you guys ought to be a little concerned. Bin Ladins factions have working facilities and have aquired training in the manufacture and delivery of bio and chem agents. There is some truth as to how efficient a bio agent can be delivered and be expected to perform to expectations. The same goes for chem agents. dependiong on the agent, atmospheric conditions, and delivery type, they can be duds or can be massive in destructive power. typically a humid climate with a very light breeze is desirable, and the delivery should not be initiated by explosive. If the agent is a persistent type (some blood and blister agents) it can be lethal for hours to days. The bio stuff is very finicky. Its survival parameters require infection of several people and then it spreads from them. If  it does not infect enough people and dies in its enviroment then it is a dud.

this threat is real. To be frank, I am a more than a little concerned.

Ther're passing out 100,000 gas masks a week in Israel.

If we can't manufacture enuff anti-toxin, can we manufacture enuff masks?
