A Request To The CT TEAM
« on: October 09, 2005, 01:33:59 PM »
Hey Guys

I started this thread in the Whish list about using the backup MA as a Simulation / Realisim Arena.

Whish List Thread

HT responded that we can't use the Backup MA and that we should speak to the CT Team if we want to try somthing different.

So in short, I had the idea of an arena with the following

1- Weather
2- Night and Day
3- Proper Norton Calibration
4- Short range icons
5- All later war Planes perked (or not there)
6- On that note separate perks from the MA if possible
7- Heavy buffs (17,24,Lanc) perked (or formations perked if possible)
8- Fuel burn set to 1.0 or 1.5
9- If possible disable triggers in the F3 view
10- Make auto field Ack stronger, more deadly
11- Wind Layers

A number of other have responded also.

So if you have time, have a look at the thread and let us know what you think about using the CT to do somthing like this.

Thanks

storch

I'm not on the CT team but I am a regular.  most of those requests are already common to the arena.  I'm of the opinion that the CT should be tougher still with the exception of the ack.  ack really wasn't very effective at it's normal setting it's effective enough.  I like chasing runners and killing them in their ack.  vultching is frowned upon in the CT.

I run into the same thing mussie, I just usually make a few runs to whack ground targets (AAA or city buildings, no porking!) and somehow that always seems to pull guys in.

Was just in there for an hour or so. Started out the only one in the air, had a nice 10-man fight going when I had to leave for food.
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

This is true.  If there's no one in the CT when you log on, go there anyway and learn a new plane, or practice a new maneuver in your favorite enabled plane, something like that, for 10 or 15 minutes.  Usually (not always, but usually) someone else will show up, and the snowball will build.

1. No such thing as "weather" In AH sept wind.
2. We used to have 30-45mins of night but some people whined about not being able to see.
3. Only thing is you have to set the target alt. which take about 1 sec. more by clicking your target on the map.
4. On some maps we have this. Id like to see 1-2k icons.
5. Late war planes or planes that were "new" during the setup are sometimes limited to a few bases.
6. CT has different perks.
7. Heavy buffs are almost all ways on the front lines. I think they need to be 2-3 bases behind the front.
8. Fuel burn is 1.0-1.25 mos tthe time in the CT.
9. Not possible.
10. Not a good idea for the CT. CT has littler maps thus bases are closer together thats why ack it set to .7 rather then the MAs 1.0 puff ack is way to deadly when you have 2-3 bases of puff ack fireing at you.
11. we used to have wind lyers. Dont know why the CMs dont enable it anymore.

Larry In the MA you dont have to calibrate the bomb site by manually targeting a point on the ground. youjust press u then hold y for a few seconds then hit u again.

Also Weather was around in AH 1 if i recall correctly.

If by weather you mean clouds and overcasts, those are built directly into the maps. One of the main problems in the CT has been a lack of maps since AH2 came out. No way to "add" weather to an existing map, it has to be built in. Since the map-building process is more painful than getting 3 root canals at once, nobody builds them, thus no new maps, thus no weather.

1. We can emulate weather, but that just means adding lots of clouds and reducing visibility, plus making the skys grey. I've done it before with good results. But it's a bit of work.
2. Night time? Just ask.
3. Current CT setups require FULL calibration unlike the MA. You still need to click the map, and track the gound properly.
4. There are two distances for enemy icons - short and long. Current CT standard is short (2k I think, or 3) and 500 yards before full icon display.
5. we currently do this to balance the gameplay.
6. Perks in the CT are on a completely different scale.
7. Usually heavy buff are set on the rear airfields or left out completely.
8. Fuel burn standard in the CT is 1.5 or 1.2 for larger maps.
9. We have the ability to disable all external views. CT standard is all views off except for buffs, similiar to the MA. We've tried disabling all external views, but it was met with mixed results/feedback.
10. Current AAA at airfields in the MA are like lazers. Historically, AAA was very ineffective. The way it's used in the MA is to balance gameplay. In the CT, we often set the AAA to .1, .25 or .5 depending on the map.
11. We've been lazy lately setting wind layers. Maybe we should start using it again.

thanks for the suggestions!

Yeah, the ack has been tearing me to shreds this setup, I've yet to get back unscathed from an attack run :aok

Nope.
Clouds can be added anytime.  They are not required to be built into the terrain (for HTC hosted terrains).  The SEA regularly changes the weather for a terrain depending on the event being run.

Skuzzy, do you mean playing with the color codes for sky, haze, etc in the arena setup?

I consider that separate from actualy fluffy clouds (that you can fly into and out of) in a map.

No, I mean the actual clouds, and cloud layers.  Those do not have to be contained in the actual terrain resource file for HTC hosted terrains.

It is one reason the cloud editor is separate from the terrain editor.

Hrm... is that separation new to AH2? I seem to recall the question being brought up before, and people always told me "it's built into the map".
