SAS in skirmish with Taleban fighters...
« on: September 23, 2001, 08:52:00 AM »
Apparently there are reports of a series of skirmishes between an SAS recon group and taleban militia. The SAS are working with the Afghani Northern Alliance, the anti-Taleban movement.

Also, the Taleban are saying they have 'lost contact' with Bin Laden. I think desperation might be creeping into their strategy for 'not getting bombed'.

Unfortunately, I think Mav is right. Whatever the Taleban say is likely to be bollocks. But maybe, just maybe...

I'm betting the SAS, the Green Berets and the Russian equivalent have been on the ground at some level for years, working with the Northern Alliance (mostly training, though).  What you're seeing is a leak to imply that there is fighting going on.
Taliban saying OBL is missing makes sense.  You think that guy informs everyone about his movements even under normal conditions?

Dinger, taliban claimed to have limited his movements and comunications. Ya can't do that unless you have him in custody.

Never figured it was true, this just confirms it. Apparently lying is ok by the talibans rules.

Report: U.S. Special Forces in Afghanistan

"Citing unidentified senior U.S. and Pakistani officials, the newspaper said U.S. commandos arrived in Pakistan on Sept. 13 -- two days after the attacks -- and began moving into Afghanistan with orders to capture or kill the Saudi-born Islamic militant, or pin him down until the United States can launch air strikes."

"Quoting U.S. officials, it said several elite military units were involved in the effort to find bin Laden, including the Army's Green Berets, Navy SEALS and the British Army's Special Air Services."

Just a note, there where reports on german TV that our KSK "Kommando Spezialkräfte" where also ordered to Afghanistan.
But its all very top secret here and not much info you can found about.
KSK is a german special force similar to the US Green Berets.
But its not like the german GSG9, the KSK has a purely military job.
The statement below is true.
The statement above is false.

I hope those SAS lads accomplish their mission and that all of them are OK.  From TV reports, the Afgans can be very nasty to  prisoners.
