So, anyone have one?

Come on, they just came out yesterday ( October 10, 2005 )!!!!!!

Are they faster than the 7800GTX's?

With these, they can finally run SLI, or i think they call it "crossfire"

Any news on them?

Looks like there may be a few issues, i.e.
1600x1200 is limited to 60hz ONLY using Crossfire.
Unlike SLI you require two different versions of the card for Crossfire.
7800 still seems to be the card to beat.

Same ole, same ole, the X1800XT outperforms the 7800GTX in all but OpenGL games, and has faster SM3.0 support. ATI has another trick up their sleeve and just released a demonstration of it. Using the onboard FPU, they are able to get much higher performance in 3D graphics versus using the CPU's FPU.

HardOCP is not the site you want to look at for a proper review as they hate ATI and have posted, what amounts to, a lot of misinformation about the new products. They are taking al ot of heat for what they did.

SLI and Crossfire are nice marketing gimmicks, as far as I am concerned. This new generation of cards are very CPU bound.

Yeah even with the latest nForce boards doubling SLI bandwidth it doesn't help the CPU bound part of it.

Two reviews were just two I picked up on a quick search.

Interesting though is the 60hz only at 1600x1200 using Crossfire.

How fast do you think CPU's need to go to 'catch' up with graphics cards now?

To be able to saturate the new cards from ATI and NVidia? The CPU's need about a 50 to 70% (possibly more) boost in speed over where they are right this minute.
Or, the video cards need to be doing more. Much more.

This new generation of cards can do AA/AF easily and still be idle waiting for the CPU to deliver some data so they can do graphics work.

How comes the hardware sites are able to report one card outpacing another in their testing? If what you say is true then all scores should have been level at the last generation of GPU? No card would have been able to outperform another given an FX55 CPU or similar with 1 Gig of RAM?

I'm not being argumentative, just curious. I don't patrticularly want one of these things, especially not SLI, saints preserve us:rolleyes:

If they wouldnt find any diffrence and coulnt present tests that seem to give valueable data no body would read the hardwaresides.
So just because they find a diffrence doesnt mean that its in any way relevant for the player.

Can you provide some links to where you got this info? I've read HardOCP for years and have never seen any partiality shown by them.

Sure there will be a difference, but there is not a CPU on the planet which can actually push these new cards, much less the last generation, to thier fullest potential. This will become more and more clear as faster CPU's are available as they will push these cards harder.

HardOCP took a lot of heat for the irresponsible postings Kyle and Brent did about not testing the X1800XT as it is not currently available. Yet, they have done testing on NVidia cards when they were not available.

They also reported none of the high end ATI cards have been available form the current generation, which is a bunch of malarky. Making one comment about the X850XT PE calling it the "Phantom Edition".
As I own one of those cards and had no trouble getting it (as have many others I know), I have to wonder what the heck they are talking about (as do many others). Check thier front page commentaries.

Go to NewEgg and you will find no less than 5 different manufacturers supplying the X850XTPE and all are in stock and have been in stock for quite some time. And yet, they are making a big deal about someone reporting they found one at some obscure site.

What would you call it?
