I like the "kinder, gentler" spin being put on us to select a new "national song".
"My Country Tis of Thee?"
"My country tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing.
Land where my fathers died!
Land of the Pilgrim's pride!
From every mountain side,
Let freedom ring!"
"America the Beautiful?"
O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
Nice songs, nice tunes, nice sentiment.
But I sorta like the National Anthem, the Star Spangled Banner.
"O say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?"
Yeah, that's more the message I'd like to send OBL and his ilk.
We're still here.... and we're coming for you.
...and you're right Deja.. they don't need to embellish it. Just sing it loud and clear.
