Immediate "could not connect to host..." msg
« on: October 13, 2005, 06:27:32 PM »
I select 'online' and on the next window I select 'ok' to go online and immediately I get the "couldn't connect to host..." msg.  Tried several times last night and again this afternoon. This just after I connected to the host and downloaded patch 3 for v2/05.   Could I get some help,....gettting AH withdrawals....(cough, cough)  getting .....weak.....(cough).

Switch firewall to learn and allow ah2 again. After the patch its a new program so the firewall has to allow it again.

Check your network connection with ipconfig, tracert and ping.

Thanks, SNO, but I added AH.exe to my exclusions list for Windows firewall and Norton Anitvirus, but I get the same result.   I then uninstallled AH and reinstalled it. (AH2052, I believe)   v2.05 p3, re-entered AH.exe as an exclusion (in both Windows and Norton, and still, it I get the same  'could not connect to host...' msg immediately after trying to go online.

Schutt, thanks.   What do you mean by 'switch firewall to learn'?   I also tried tracert, ipconfig, and ping but the window with the resultant information only flashed and was gone, so I don't know the result.

The executable is 'aceshigh.exe'.  Just being sure you did not put in 'ah.exe' as that will not work.

Verify it is a firewall problem by shutting down the firewall and trying it.

By the way, my firewall was blocking something call "Backweb  78......", that wouldn't have anything to do with it, would it?

kill the anti-virus before running ah. you might want to run some spy-malware killers

OK!!!  I got it working.  Apparently, there are two Norton icons, one is anti-virus and the other is internet security.  It is the Norton internet security icon (next to the anit-virus icon     ;( ) that I disabled.

Thanks    Skuzzy, Schutt, JT

I also found a firewall exclusion list within Norton's Internet Security program that allows me run AH online and keep the Norton internet security running as well.

Thanks again for your help.
