a little help with FFB2
« on: October 15, 2005, 10:31:35 AM »
I was wondering if anyone could help me a little i have a sidewinder forcefeedback 2 stick and dont really know what  i should do to tighten it up some. i actully dont do to bad but i have it set at default settings and have tryed alot of different things with it but still seem to get alot of bounce.Ive only been playing AH2 for a month or so and did manage to do fairly well but would like to get better. I used to be dang good in AW and AW2 but i cant seem to fly the same planes and get the same results and im fairly sure its my stick set up. And i know i need to set up some training but its hard with work and playing everquest with my wife. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

How about I will send you a brand new Saitek x-45 throttle and stick and a Saitek cyborg EVO for your FFB2?  Oh yeah I will pay all the shipping costs to. ;)

Do you mean the stick itself bounces and shakes?

no the stick itself dont bounce but my planes nose seems to i can see it when i watch my films. and hrmmm about tradeing sticks i must say no hehe  this is the 1st stick ive actully liked and had more then 2 years . I do have ch peddles and a logitech didgital that i would be more then willing to part with *wink wink*
My 1st full tour i think i ranked 660 something with a 5-10% hit rate but i do need to work on my TnB fighting. I tend to do alot of immelmann's and high yo yo's  but i have managed to get a nikki to do some hella turns at low speeds. and i tend to always be full throttle unless im droping in from ungodly heights I need alot of work. I do have good patients as in i dont drop in on a single con with 6 people chaseing it and i dont run from fights unless im bingo or low on go go juice even if im nothing but a target.
I have a rather nice film of me clearing 2 spits from a friendlys p47 then dropin down on another spit and pinging him before getting waxxed by a f4u.
I find myself flying p51d which i love more and more or a nikki or the 190a5, I used to be a fairly good spit pilot in AW but tend to get blasted in it nowdays.

Are your CH pedals USB?

As for as your nose bounce...... Do you have combat trim turned on?  Also make sure your stick is calibrated in Aces High.  Go..... Clipboard/setup/controls/joystick/calibrate stick.

Let me know how that works...

reeb....  I also use the FFB2... and while not totally eliminating nose bobble at slow speeds, i have managed to make it more bearable.

pitch/roll 100% scaled across the board with deadband/dampers set as low as possible (you'll find it more crisp, and not slushing thru rolls - it'll still present a bit of nose bobble - but that may be due to combat trim for all i know). the dead/damp are set very very low... a couple hairs up... experiement to find your comfort level.

rudder... 100% scaled across with dead/damp sliders about 2/3 way up. twisty sticks, while more convenient than a keyboard or other j/s assigned function are still no match for rudder pedals.

throttle.. set it for however you feel comfortable with the incr/decr in throttle. Mine's set a bit up for dead/damp to provide more precise control (i.e., less senstivity).

FFB effects - I only utilize stall and buffet, both set around 35%
Surrounded by suck and underwhelmed with mediocrity.
I'm always right, it just takes some poepl longer to come to that realization than others.
I'm not perfect, but I am closer to it than you are.

my peddles are old school not usb, i got them back when the 200mmx processer was fast.
And thankyou shane ill give those settings a try and let you know how i fair.
and yeah i leave the combat trim on atm ive tryed it off and get to over whelmed when flyin cuz i worry about the right settings on it.

Nomak, there is a work around for the analog pedals. Get yourself a "gameport to USB" adapter from Radio Shack "ADAPTER"  set it on "wheel" on the adapter.

Windows will see it as a USB device and you'll be able to calibrate it there. In AH you can select it in the "joystick" selection area and set it as your rudder pedals.

Works great ! I had to switch out my analog CH throttle and stick due to an upgraded motherboard. Saved $100 by not having to buy new pedals :) CH is the best out there, old set lasted over 5 years and was still solid, look forward to keeping the USB set forever !
