Trip to Hollister Hills ORVP (Pics large many)
« on: October 16, 2005, 02:41:37 AM »
Me, my buddy, my brother in law and my sister went to Hollister hills State off road vehicle park.

These are in the rock quary area.

Nice steep place to try and climb.

Almost got it the lockers helped here.

Made it up.
This is called the Squeeze, a narrow rock section in the obstacle course. No one else was trying it, and I walked it and it didn’t seem bad so I gave it a try.

gets a little harder here, I am glad I got the dif cover and engine skid now!

Almost to the end.

Stuck. Yes I forgot to disconnect the sway bars. LOL.

Rock crusher is having fun on a rock.

Guy with a nice Cherokee came over and helped spot and got me unstuck and all the way through.

not bad really.

Last thing we did is head up the paved hill climb near the campsite. Easy as pie.

Was a really fun day and free, since they were closed last time we went and got free passes since the told us on the phone it was open.

I'll never forget my first (and last) ride in one of those jeep things. It was on a lunchtime outing with some work colleagues. I sat in the front passager seat for the 2 mile ~10 minute journey. Even though we were on flat tarmac roads the whole time, the level of discomfort was almost unspeakable.

The only ride since that comes close to being as uncomfortable was a half hour ride to the airport in a Lotus Elise.

KEWL!

I got my Jeep back yesterday.  It's funny......WIth the two new tires and new rims and the alignment.......My jeep rides BETTER after being hit than it did the day I bought it.

Unfortunatly It's getting cold now so I put the hard top on it today.  Yesterday's 60 mile trip from the collision center was the last road trip I'll get this year with no top.

EDIT:

The guy behind the counter was cool but He didn't listen too well.  One of my bumperettes got smashed and He couldn't find were to order them from.  I kept telling him quadratech or 4wd OR that he could just pay me for them and I'll get a new bumper.

Turns out I had a set in my garage from way back in the day.  I shined them up and installed them today.  I made $193 Off of them.

GTO, Are you part of the jeep club up in hayward?

looks boring to me. I'd rather go someplace offroad and interesting, not to some fake amusement park.

Yeah, it was cold and sprinkling when we left for Hollister, but by the time we got their it was nice enough for the top to be off, but with all the junk in the back I didnt have anyplace to still the windows without scratching them.

Was like 75 all day there.

It's always nice to get a car back working better after it gets hit, lol not that it has ever happened to me though.

I'm kinda dumbfounded that theres an offroad theme park in the first place.

No, havn't gotten a chance to contact them or go to any of their meetings yet.

I did join the California Asocation of 4X4 clubs though. Most for info on how to help keep trails open in California.

We have a pretty good trail here on base.  I havn't taken it yet but since it's starting to cool down a bit I might check it out soon.  Parks available for off-road are becoming more and more scarce here in cali.  Can't wait to move to texas and "get a little mud on the tires"

Vulcan
It is a state run park for Dirt bikes ATVs and 4X4s

Hollister Hills ORVP

800 acres 24 miles of trail.

California has atleast 3 and I think 4 in the state.

There are tons of trails in Cali to run, but many are in the mountains and close for the winter.

This place is about 40 minutes from Fremont and open year round. Not as fun as the "real" thing but not a 3 hour drive either.
