It's been said we have three brains, one cobbled on top of the next. The stem is first, the reptilian brain; then the mammalian cerebellum; finally the over developed cerebral cortex.  They don't work together in awfully good harmony - hence ax murders, mobs, and socialism.

I looked at the pictures, but didnt' read too much.

Is it a humane way to take an animal. That's always the point from hunters whether they use firearm or archery. Either way, if done correctly will take the animal down quickly.

What of the atlatl?

shane is right it gives the spear tremendous leverage.  recently the fossilized remains of a mammoth were discovered with seven obsidian spear points lodged in the animal's ribcage.  man was killing very large prey dating back to the last North American iceage.  I wonder what tool they may have utilized to get the penetration required to produce a lung or heart shot through a tough elephant hide?

Might not be too accurate without practice, compared to a bow or gun.

I'm sure the atlatl will kill, but I'm betting prehistoric men didn't have to worry about tree huggers. ;)

I bet that you would be tree-hugging too if a Mammoth was charging your rear-end :p

I would love to get one just to practice with. I believe they are already legal here in Alabama but I have never seen one in a store here or in use by anyone.

It might just be the thing to get some these deer hunters to put aside their Remchesters with the hubble telescopes on top, climb out of the tree stands and take some Grizzlies up in Yukon territority. I'd pay a dollar to see that.

I don't know, perhaps it's good enough to skewer a few tree huggers if they line up properly.

There was a special on TV awhile back about a group of 5 or 6 CEOs that have an annual hunting retreat they go on as a group. They go hunt brown & grizzlies... with spears. From what I understand, they surround it, corral it a bit with the pointy ends, all spear at once, and hold on frantically while trying not to die. Then they eat it.

That's alot more manly than shooting bambi from 200 yards with a scoped .308, in a tree, where your biggest concern is spilling your precious coffee and/or jim beam.
