TiVo and the NFL

I can't take it. My gawd... Rather than the opposite effect, TiVo has made the NFL completely unwatchable.

Before I had it, I could watch a game and not really be annoyed with the delays, the standing around, the commercials, etc. But with TiVo, I know I don't have to sit through all of the crap that happens in between the actual playing.

Turns out... there's something like ten minutes of actual playing during that 3+ hour game. So, I watch a play... fast forward to the next play... watch... fast forward... rinse... lather... repeat...

Now, it's too much like work. There's just way too gawdamned much **** to have to fast forward through.

Is it just me?

It's like watching baseball sober.

Tivo opens your eyes to all the crap that we were once forced to put up with.

Pretty soon the networks will have to find other ways to advertise.  Since I don't have to watch commercials any more I don't.

And yeah, when you break it down there's really not too much to a game.
Do not attribute to malice what can be easily explained by incompetence, fear, ignorance or stupidity, because there are millions more garden variety idiots walking around in the world than there are blackhearted Machiavellis.

The broadcasters have already got to Tivo. They can set the broadcast flag to stop you recording, they can automatically delete recordings you have made, even if you want to keep them (added in their latest software update, "accidentally" tested a few weeks ago). And they are soon to add banner ads onscreen when you fast forward past adverts.

Faced with a choice of changing their business practices, or paying legislators to outlaw technology, the media companies will chose the latter, every time.

One reason I'm very happy with my ReplayTV.  It also has a cool automatic commercial skip mode.  I don't even have to touch my remote and it skips past the commercial 'break'.  Sadly, to get that feature you need to buy an older model, but it's still great.

they have offset times to throw tivo off - nbc has many shows now that are a pain to record, if not impossible

I have my cable box dvr which I can grab ones that are blocked by tivo

the way I figure, I get an hour back of my life for every 3 hours of tivo recorded programming vs watching live as it is averaging about 20 minutes of commercials in an hour show nowadays

That's why I have Sunday ticket. anytime there's a commercial, just switch to the next game. I got the timing to return the previous down pretty good too, so I usually dont miss any action.
