Part of the problem... is that it takes awhile before you recognize some peoples ideas of 'fun'.  For some, their idea of 'fun' is to be as abrasive as possible and see the reaction.  Others are trolls, looking to stir up 'a little action' with some name calling, incenuation, and outright disrespectful offesive remarks.   Getting a reaction is what it's all about!

The added banter by the peanut gallery can be unsettling. Thinking someone is 'all that' because they can play a game better than you is ... well... absurd!  But that does come off in this BBS.  I think the interaction on this BBS might make an interesting physiological study!

Unfortunately, when you don't recognize these types for what they are doing, it can be upsetting.  Once you recognize them, they are quite laughable.  However, for someone just starting the game, recognizing who and what these 'names' are about is almost impossible.  There are some real buttheads on this BBS, no doubt.  But, the AH BBS has no monopoly on them.

More 'spirited' conversation is tolerated on this BBS than most.  However, taken in the right (not so serious) light it is all in fun!

Malta

Personally ch 200 is wearing pretty thin.

Gettin tired of the mouths, admittedly there is not too many of em, spewing garbage.  Thinkin of turnin it off.  Typing about 10 to 20 names everytime I log on would be a drag.  Many of those 10 to 20 are fairly NEW.

I really didn't care for a country changing comment aimed at a female that contained the word "potato".  No i'm not politically correct, not even close.  That comment COULD create soooooo much trouble for HTC and this community it is NO WERE NEAR FUNNY!  Said about guys from guys is one thing but would have been much better to have avoided such a comment with a female.  Don't think she was offended, she didn't respond in that manner, but how many others are there online that don't let anyone know who they are in an effort to avoid such comments?

Yet that comment, and some others in the same catagory, about sums up what seems to be comin outa these fairly new mouths.

comon guys... I like a good fart joke as much as the anybody but this so called "dark" or "sophisticated" humor is just too much... it hurts peoples feelings and makes this whole thing look like.... well like some kind of game.

I think if we all showed a little sensitivity and appreciation for the hard work of those who are trying to make this more than a game....  we would all be better people.  It must be painful to work so hard at anything or to make a serious post about a serious subject and then... for all your effort.... be the butt of a joke and have all that effort scoffed at.

Oh I have to agree with this 100%.
Being a sensitive person myself I find the crying myself to sleep nights becoming ever more present due to some of the true cruel people here. Some are just such big meanies. I get so distraught from all the taunting and name calling that I have found myself spending less time here. I have been spending more and more time working on graphs and presentations to make Morph top in sales for The ChiggerFlickerOmatic and way less time on the BBS and in the game. Sometimes I just find it more than I can take.
I think what would help is if we had someone to turn to in times of crisis.
Maybe someone we could ask questions of and seek counsel. I know this can work because I read Dear Abbey often and see all the good it does. Truely remarkable.
Maybe a Dear Laz section could be arranged here.

I find the best way to deal with the people that have nothing better to do then talk trash is to ignor them or just laugh at them. I dont play to be the best i play cuz i like WW2 aircraft and i like the rush of haveing someone that plays 24/7 and is really good on my 6. If i had the time to play everyday and tighten my skillz up i could prolly be one of the best but ive been there and it just makes the game boreing ( i was solaris champion on MPBT and always getting the victory is boreing) Its better to have fun and not worry about the trash talk because thats all it is.

After all it is just a game

Let us all engage in an internet prayer designed to change this game and community into a lazs' version of what it should be.

I didn't mean to accuse anyone in this thread of being overly antagonistic.  A good quick derogatory remark can be fun for everyone.  Its the ones who get on 200 or on here and go on and on and on and on and .......well, I think you get it.

I've rarely exchanged words with lazs, maybe next to never, so he dont know me and I would hardly expect to be counted among his friends.  As I dont post in the more populated forums very often or play much more than 20 hours a month then very few would even have an opportunity to consider me a friend here.

What I'm saying lazs is that I dont expect you to even give a hoot about me as a real person.  I didn't really post to criticise you for this post or any others. I felt (and I've been wrong before) that your post was directed at the community and I meant mine in the same way.  Maybe the words came off differently.  I just thought I needed to add more to my post as I didn't want Grits to feel I was picking on him.  Neither of you are players that I would consider to be "bad for the community".  Very few are, and I tend to ignore them anyway.  What led me to respond here was an overall feel that seems to be taking over here.

My apologies to both (for what its worth).

gonna go have a good cry now ;)

I think that you people think too much about whatother people say. esply on an internet board. Its one thing to pick apart someones' words irl. Its something totally different to do it on here.

You (those^) people are making one big mistake here.

exmpl: I dont always agree with what Lazs says. I dont always agree with how he says things although I find 99.9% of it funny as hell. But I do know that IRL lazs is a hell of a guy. He can distinguish this internet life from real life and will never intertwine the two. Every single one of the BK's is this way. Which is why we get along as well as we do. We can step into the game or these boards and call eachother every name in the book one minute then the next laugh our tulips off about it.

The only real problem with the community today is that it is full of people who are thinking far too hard about what everyone else is saying and doing. Those are the same people who think of it as more than just a game and a way to escape the stresses of daily life and just have fun. The same people who never really log off of the game or the boards. They take it to work with them, take it to bed with them, lose sleep over it, get angry or upset becasuse they didnt get an from someone for a good fight or acknowlegment from someone on the bb for their uber flying.

I have gotten the impression from reading lazs' posts that indeed he probably is a very stand up individual irl.  I was only saying that he has had no opportunity to know me, so how could he consider me a friend ( or even an aquaintance, really ).  I read his posts because I tend to agree with them, and get a kick out of those who dont and the banter between them.  I dont have a problem with lazs, I have a problem with those who think they need to justify thier sense of self value by trying to belittle everyone else.  I think I am capable of teling the difference between those who are just funnin' and those who want to start a fight.
