Petition To Revoke China's MFN Trade Status
« on: April 09, 2001, 01:55:00 PM »
This came to me via E-Mail through my CAF squadron.

Don't know if it will help, but I'm doing it.

"Will you take a moment to sign an urgent petition calling on Congress to immediately revoke China's permanent "favored nation" status? It takes just minutes."

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

The sad bit is that even Bush, who is pretty right wing and supposedly a tough cookie, looks reluctant to mess with Chinas trade status.

Ah, economics before ideology. Long live capitalism

As opposed to what StSanta...??

hmm the wealth of a king over the good of all the people??

the keeping of power by an elete few at the cost of murdering ones own pupulation..??

or for china's sake..keeping secrets at the cost of imprisoning and killing your won people if they ever disagree with their own goverment??

yea they all sound better than capitalism...

Done, although I disliked the right wing feel of the options.  Not only right wingers dislike our relationship with China.

Wobble,

China's brand of Communism is not the antithesis of Capitalism.  It is the antithesis of Democracy.  Santa was saying that the US should put morals ahead of dollars and do what is right, revoke China's MFN status, or better yet cease trading with them completely.  I agree with him.

Why do we trade with China but not Cuba?  Why is it the best way to change China's attitude with trade, but Cuba's with embargoes?

Is this just for revocation of MFN, or trade in general? If it's MFN... I think I may sign it. China has shown repeatedly that the priviledge does not in any way change their actions on the international scene. They've abused it too many times. Revoke it.

It it's trade in general, I would say that we best keep at least some trading partnership with China. Embargoes only strengthen the resolve of the government and people, and cause the innocent people of the nation to suffer.

Which of course is another point: Lift the Cuba embargo! (It didn't work with China, I know... worth a try though, what?)
