So I picked a cheeky thread to piss on, my mistake. The thread-crapping in general is funny, hell i'd laugh and join in if I didnt think there were side effects.
Look at the nonsense from a different perspective. Anyone that hasn't been here in a while wont have the slightest clue whats going on. More than half the customers probably have no knowledge this BBS exists. Newguy sees the commercial on the military channel or hears about it from a friend, checks the forum where half the threads have some joke going, their impression is
"wtf? this community is nuts, screw it." How should one dismiss the shenanigans as merely shenanigans (and actually laugh) if one hasnt been exposed to the ins and outs for a time? I'm just saying it's got the potential to scare off new members, or members not accustomed to this bunk,
before they can comprehend it's meant as humor. So what follows that process after a time? A closed community that eventually fizzles out. Boring, predictable for the existing players, and less new blood for HTC. New guys arent learning anything if the vets want nothing to do with them (apply that to lame gameplay too, heh). Just sayin' HTC depends on the community... this forum is the game metaphorically. That's what separates it from boxed sims and fighting against AI.
You can easily turn my argument into an old fart's rant, and thats probably true
, only because I've seen this happen 4 times now since joining AH. It's not the same as 2004, 04's not the same as 03, etc, all the way to `99 and 2000 when I joined.
blah blah blah
